00:00It was hard for the firefighters to escape the fire in the baseco compound that reached the 3rd alarm.
00:05Aside from the lack of quick access to the area,
00:08many also tried to return to their homes.
00:11Mark Salazar was able to help.
00:17Because of the strong fire and heavy smoke,
00:20the fire that exploded in the baseco compound in Manila quickly reached the 3rd alarm
00:26before 12 o'clock this afternoon.
00:29Our investigators assessed that it was more or less a house that was on fire.
00:35It was not easy to respond because there was no quick access to the area.
00:39A concrete perimeter fence was also needed
00:42in the nearby private compound to get closer to the base of fire.
00:47Not only was the firefighting a challenge to the responders,
00:51but also the crowd control.
00:53There were residents who were forcing themselves to return to the burned house
00:57to save their belongings.
00:59The robbers were coming from the sea.
01:03We were not allowed to enter.
01:04My son was there, but he didn't want to go in because there was a ground there.
01:08In the midst of the quick evacuation,
01:11a fire volunteer was able to recover the pile of money in a burned house.
01:16There were a lot of them. Some were rolled up and some were burned to pieces.
01:21I was not able to put them back.
01:24Some were almost burnt to ashes.
01:26These are the money that were almost burned to ashes,
01:29but there were more than P7,000 that were still intact
01:32and were turned over to the Manila Fire District.
01:35It was easy for the owner of the house to find out where the money was recovered.
01:39We will turn it over to the barangay so that they can call us
01:43to see where the volunteer found it.
01:47The next day, the house was declared a firehouse.
01:50No one was hurt, but there was no estimate of the value of the pile of money.
01:55For GMA Integrated News, Mark Salazar, for 24 Hours.
