Transcript
00:00In Friday's T20 Series opener, West Indian bats were in rhythm as the men in maroon
00:28coasted to victory over South Africa. Two days ago, the fans provided the soundtrack
00:37for another impressive win. And it was the Windies bowlers who were pitch perfect this
00:43time, hitting the high notes to derail the protiers' run chase and seal a series-clinching
00:48Tuna lead with one to play. So we come to the final game, the third and final T20I between
01:00the West Indies and South Africa here at the Bran Lara Cricket Academy in South Trinidad.
01:09Just look at that delivery. This is brilliant from Hakeem Hussein. You have to see the deliveries
01:15before, the ones that curled back into the right-hander, to really appreciate that one.
01:20Some grip, some turn, excellent stuff. Latches onto that one and finally, a boundary for
01:30South Africa.
01:34Yeah, it has been excellent work by Matthew Ford, but I think what is putting him off
01:38here is the little semi from Ryan Rickleton. Hazer is running in, Ryan Rickleton went left
01:43side and he's trying to follow him. Easy pickings, easy pickings for the man off the
01:48high felt. And again, so we've waited a while to see the first four. Well, the first six
01:57follows quickly thereafter, consecutive boundaries for Rickleton. Yeah, and this is the reason
02:03why I always highlight the point not to panic at the top of the order because Ryan Rickleton,
02:08he does possess the power to catch up with the right at any stage. So after giving himself
02:15a couple of deliveries to see what's happening, it's now just the little sifting gears.
02:23Now boundaries are beginning to flow now, that's gone all the way for six. Always the
02:27risk when you bowl three consecutive overs in the power play.
02:32Just trying to use the surface. He's done well with his changes of pace and length.
02:38Or else grip on that occasion. Easy pickings for Hendrix.
02:44Hopefully it won't impact again for too long.
02:51You can see the disappointment on Hossain's face and of course on the fans as well who
02:56have waited an hour and we have gone through that full 60 minutes before we start losing
03:02overs. So this is not lengthy delay. Then we will have a continuation. If not, we will
03:09start to lose, but really is a pity because first four and a half overs quite entertaining.
03:15Good results shown by South Africa, but good use of conditions from the West Indies.
03:21Lofted, Fielder comes in and completes the catch. Fabian Allen, one of the three changes,
03:32putting his hands together and getting the first wicket for the West Indies.
03:38Excellent start after the rain.
03:41It's an excellent catch, excellent delivery from Hossain, just held up in the pitch.
03:51Hendrix not getting or not being in control, but what an amazing catch from Fabian Allen.
03:59Hossain makes the breakthrough, Hendrix goes for 9, it's 23 for 1.
04:12Dropped, the simplest of chances, put down by Akeel Hossain.
04:25He created the pressure of three deliveries prior, so pressure was on Rickleton.
04:32He has just pushed into the offside.
04:35That's a fine stroke. He just picked that up with the turn and dispatched it through
04:42that wide long-arm region for six. Great shot.
04:46Release of frustration for Rickleton.
04:51A massive hit. Just a bit too wide to the left-handed batter.
04:59Given some room and dispatched.
05:04Full toss and just passes the off-reach hands of Kudakishmoti.
05:12There is another six.
05:18Full from Rostam, well struck from Markrum.
05:25Kudakishmoti did get a hand, it should have done better.
05:30And he does go after him, this time through the offside.
05:35Really good shot in the attempt to continue getting boundaries.
05:43I like this from a technical point of view for South Africa.
05:47Left-handed, Rickleton taking most of the strike against Kudakishmoti who is turning the ball into him.
05:55Goes round the wicket and should be out.
05:59Obed McCoy underneath it and he puts that down as well.
06:05He was under it for an eternity but never steadied himself.
06:10Yeah, that ball was in the air for a very long time.
06:14Ryan Rickleton, this is the calculated wrist against the left-armer.
06:21Yeah, just not get himself settled under the high ball did Obed McCoy.
06:29Enough power on it.
06:31Matthew Ford came running in because he didn't realise that Markrum had hit it so very well.
06:38This is an exceptional shot by Markrum.
06:41Just look how he affords himself a bit of time to set himself.
06:46Lovely, lovely from Aidan Markrum.
06:50Giving himself enough room to hit with anticipated spin even though it may only be sliding on.
06:58Yeah, this is a much better option from Aidan Markrum.
07:01You can see Kudakishmoti is trying to follow him into those pads.
07:09Got him, first ball.
07:11Got him, first ball.
07:13Sheppard has his man, his good form, his good bowling continues.
07:17Good change of bowling from Rostam Chase.
07:22Yeah, certainly continuing where he slept off two nights ago.
07:27Sheppard using it hard, better for length.
07:29You can see Aidan Markrum trying to absolutely bully this down the ground but
07:35it's Sheppard who has the last laugh.
07:38South African captain, he makes way for 20.
07:41South African now 61 for 2.
07:47Very good.
07:50He does not need a sight, he does not have enough time for a sight.
07:56Yeah, there's absolutely no time, they have a few sighters.
07:59But just look how he gets himself into position early.
08:04Height but no distance, no distance.
08:08And taken.
08:10The Westernies have put down a couple of catches.
08:14But Mario Sheppard is in golden form in these two T20Is.
08:19Matt Hawthorne with the catch.
08:26Yeah, he's been the main instigator two nights ago.
08:30Good ball in hand, he's taken all the pace off that one.
08:33You can see Ryan Rickerdon flew the shot way too early.
08:37He had a good piece of height on it.
08:39But that is an excellent running catch by Matthew Ford.
08:44Yeah, he's in the wickets.
08:46Double wicket over so far for Mario Sheppard.
08:50Rickerdon goes for 27, South African now 66 for 3.
08:59He's clobbered that.
09:03That is a fierce-sized hit from Tristan Stubbs.
09:09Oweipo Koi has gone away from what has worked for him in the early parts of this over.
09:15You can see how early he sets himself, he wants the ball to come into his body.
09:19And with the power that this young man possesses, that's the link you want to stay away from.
09:30Four more.
09:32David Langford gave him enough time to clobber him.
09:39Yeah, it's a ploy from a bowler's perspective that you won't be too disappointed.
09:43If you manage to force him to get you into the zone that you want him.
09:46The offside, one can argue, perhaps a touch too straight.
09:50You still want to be a touch wider than that to Tristan Stubbs.
09:54And as Dwayne Bravo often says, maybe risk bowling a wide.
09:57We saw it with Kruger the other day.
10:02That's not the line, but that's the shot.
10:04Wow, that's gone.
10:06On to the highway.
10:1084 for 3.
10:13Yeah, talk about the arc of Tristan Stubbs.
10:16If you're a bowler, if you're a seam bowler, this is what you want.
10:20If you're a seam bowler, if you're a seam bowler, this is what you want to avoid.
10:26Because he has the ability to do just this.
10:30Yeah, like they say in tennis, new ball please.
10:38He just read it.
10:40So beautifully, Tristan Stubbs.
10:46It's almost the perfect pace for Tristan Stubbs.
10:49Because as Matthew Ford, the only thing you can do is to try and change it up.
10:53You can see he's gone into the surface.
10:55But it's enough length to work with for Tristan Stubbs to scoop it over that short third man.
11:05Because the length is being pummeled to all parts.
11:10100 comes up and Tristan Stubbs is 36 from 13 deliveries.
11:19Yeah, he's the perfect foil for this sort of scenario, Tristan Stubbs.
11:25And if you're going to miss your length, and you're in his arc, I can guarantee you're going to disappear out of the ball.
11:38Wow. That is magnificent. He had to wait and reset.
11:44And he has hammered that between deep extra cover and long off before.
11:49How is this for power generated?
11:52I can tell you guys that fielder at deep cover and long off, they were merely 20 metres apart.
12:00It's the slower ball, the back of the hand slower ball, but that is absolutely erased across the turf.
12:09Hit the toe, should be caught.
12:11Pace off.
12:14And Fabian Ellen takes the catch.
12:23It's a brave ball at this juncture of the game from Matthew Ford.
12:28But it's what this surface is crying out for. Pace off.
12:33And this is an excellent catch under pressure from Fabian Ellen.
12:38That is a massive wicket in the context of this game.
12:42Wow, I tell you guys, that has been explosive.
12:45Stubbs goes for 40, South Africa 106-4.
12:54Just one.
12:56South Africa finish their 13 overs at 108-4.
13:02Tristan Stubbs with a quick fire 40.
13:06And just remember that South Africa were put into bat.
13:16And those first four and a half overs before the rain, they were setting themselves up.
13:21Had to come back and face a reassessed number of overs.
13:26And they are going to have to chase the West Indies 116.
13:31Yeah, South Africa were put into bat and had to make a play in this final T20I.
13:37Richardson, 27 of 24.
13:40A quick fire 24, Captain Markham.
13:43But it was all about that man Tristan Stubbs.
13:4540 of just 15 electrifying innings by Tristan Stubbs to get South Africa to 108-4.
13:53And they are locked at 13 overs.
13:55Romario Sheppard outstanding again.
13:58He had three for 15 in the second T20 International.
14:02He had two for 14 today in two overs.
14:06Ruston Chase with two for 11 was economical.
14:12Akeel Hussain, one for 11 from three was also very good.
14:16He's going straight up.
14:18And it should be the first.
14:20It is the first.
14:22Athenaeus trying to use his feet.
14:24Can't get enough reach.
14:26The first wicket for South Africa.
14:28And those two deep fielders, that man in front of square and the deep midwicket.
14:33Of course, pushing Athenaeus to try and hit this delivery in the V.
14:38Straighter, a lot straighter.
14:39The pressure of setting the field appropriately and having your bowler bowl towards him.
14:44So critical in this dismissal.
14:46Doesn't really perform in this innings.
14:50He's gone for one.
14:52It's two for one.
14:59Straight away that goes for six.
15:01It's his first.
15:03And he's got it.
15:05He's got it.
15:07Straight away that goes for six.
15:09It's his match up.
15:11Tough hit or not, he's going to take him on.
15:15And straight away you can see the difference in mindset.
15:20That of Puran as compared to Alec Athenaeus who was not so trusting with his power and ability to clear those deep fielders' leg side.
15:29Puran.
15:33And that will be six more.
15:35Come on, no striking.
15:38And clean two.
15:42He's one of the batters of the world game that thrives on staying ahead of the bowler.
15:48That is why he's not fearful of taking the attack of the first ball of the over.
15:55First ball that he faces against a particular bowler.
15:58Because he knows that straight away he's put the bowler on the back foot.
16:02He is in control.
16:04Puran.
16:07That is huge.
16:10Nicolas Puran.
16:12Wow.
16:18He's a short man.
16:21He's very powerful with that fast swing.
16:24His low center of gravity and strong base allows him to execute great swing efficiency.
16:33He's not overbalanced, neither falling away.
16:37He stands firm and swings hard.
16:44Is it a chance? No, it's not.
16:46It's great instinctive that's the way I like to look at it.
16:49And the people in the crowd, they're loving it.
16:53Quick hands from Shehu.
16:57One of the quickest deliveries from Mopaka.
17:00Just under 125 kilometers.
17:03The height was good.
17:08This time comfortably clear.
17:13Three sixes off the home.
17:20Where should he bowl?
17:23Shehu with his second six of his innings.
17:29Played that stroke as if that delivery was telegraphed to him before it was even delivered.
17:41That is just all timing and that is the pure class, high class of Shehu.
17:4722 runs from the over.
17:52Not quite sure this is the right option for Mopaka.
17:55Mopaka bowling round the wicket to the right-handed Shehu.
17:59And we're still into that conflict phase of the innings.
18:02His natural angle as a left-hander from over the wicket takes the ball across Shehu.
18:08And it offers Mark Graham the chance for him to bowl to one side.
18:16Magnificent.
18:18Full, mid-off up.
18:20Thank you very much.
18:21Thank you very much.
18:2450-partnership comes up between these two.
18:27Puran at home.
18:30Slower delivery.
18:32And the class of Puran just delays that swing to time the ball to perfection.
18:43He's in fine form.
18:45Puran.
18:51Well positioned.
18:53There was that needed wicket but he was so good Puran he could get it in front of the man as well.
19:00Bringing boundaries at the moment.
19:02And that's very typical of the Westernies and T20 internationals.
19:06They pride themselves on that ability to hit boundaries.
19:12Haven't even completed the fourth over.
19:15Went Yorker.
19:17Attempted Yorker at least but it's just too simple.
19:21He doesn't even break a sweat.
19:24And this is a T20 batting masterclass from Nicholas Puran.
19:30He's playing every ball on parrot.
19:32He's not trying to hit or beat.
19:34Just watching the ball and expressing himself.
19:40There is a fielder.
19:42He's hit it so well.
19:43But it's gone straight to him.
19:45And Bartman.
19:47Good comeback.
19:49He sticks with change of pace and it works.
19:52Just in the middle of that one.
19:54Nicholas Puran.
19:56The shot goes on.
19:58Didn't get the power.
20:00Maybe because of the lack of pace from the delivery.
20:04Across the line.
20:06Going further away from Puran.
20:09He chose that leg side option to his demise.
20:12Important wicket for South Africa.
20:14This could just change things a bit.
20:17Swashbuckling innings of 35 from 13 from Nicholas Puran.
20:21It's 60 for 2.
20:30Edge.
20:32He'll get runs.
20:34It was a good over from Williams.
20:36It was unlucky.
20:38Still be runs for the West Indies.
20:3970 for 2.
21:06After the break.
21:08Hetmaier finds his first six on the innings.
21:20Short and angling down the leg.
21:23So he just helped it.
21:25Shimran Hetmaier.
21:29That is, in many ways, such a classical shot.
21:34The use of the feet.
21:36Very, very good from Shimran Hetmaier.
21:42He was struggling a little early on in his innings.
21:45But he had a sense that he's got the pace of the surface.
21:49A little semi down the track.
21:51Not looking to overheat it.
21:53It was more about placement.
21:55To get better.
21:57Top class.
21:59And he is outstanding, folks.
22:01From Shimran Hetmaier.
22:05In many ways, he's created his length.
22:10Little semi down the track.
22:12The first ball in this occasion.
22:14You can see.
22:16Bartman just trying to drag his length back.
22:18Equally well anticipated by Shimran Hetmaier.
22:24Oh, glorious.
22:30Just cock that up and make it a silhouette.
22:32Of Shea Hook.
22:37Just to get a sense that these guys are going to pounce on him.
22:40Any scoring opportunities.
22:42The momentum that they've created by picking up those ones.
22:45It's a change in line for Bartman.
22:48I'll tell you what.
22:50There is no better shot in the game of cricket.
22:55He clears the boundary.
22:57One shot and done.
23:00One shot to end things here.
23:04And just get it over the ropes.
23:09That is real authority from Shea Hook.
23:12To please this crowd that has turned up.
23:15And it means that the West Indies win this T20 International Series.
23:21Three to none.
23:23Darian Sammy would have set them a goal.
23:26Of a clean sweep.
23:28With Rudman Powell.
23:30They've done that.
23:32Even in this rain affected contest.
23:34Job complete.
23:37Yeah, what a way to end.
23:39Proceeding for the West Indies.
23:42Clinical and summing up conditions.
23:46That is some way to finish.
23:49A clean old victory.
23:50In this series.
23:52Yes, there is double the dose.
23:543-0 before the World Cup.
23:56And 3-0 again.
23:58Directly after the World Cup.
24:00In a 3-match T20I series against South Africa.
24:03It certainly feels from a South African perspective.
24:06Valuable lessons learned.
24:08From some of the younger crew.
24:10And hopefully lessons that will set their careers in good stead.
24:15For future years.
24:17But that man has been marooned.
24:18That man has been marooned.
24:20They've been clinical.
24:22Executing their plans.
24:24Coach speaking about.
24:26Implementing those plans.
24:28Under pressure.
24:30And yeah, think about well played.
24:32The West Indies.
24:36And Shea Hofer has had an outstanding series.
24:39But Shemron Hetman.
24:41Good to see him back.
24:43He's not always been available.
24:45And Chopin Rutherford came in and took his chances this year.
24:47But it's too good a player Shemron Hetman.
24:50Not to be available and playing more international cricket.
24:54Shea Hofer is available.
24:56And taking his opportunities.
24:59With both hands.
25:01An outstanding performance against what was put in front of them.
25:04Romario Sheppard.
25:06Bowled well again.
25:08Bowled very well in the second game and here today.
25:11Yeah, you certainly feel that the spotlight was firmly on Romario Sheppard.
25:14He's taken the mantra of wanting to be the man to inflict change.
25:19To get his team across the line.
25:21He picked up wicket at the crucial stages for the West Indies.
25:24Take it back to that second T20.
25:27Reza Hendricks, Rickleton.
25:29They got off to an absolute flyer.
25:31Picked up the wicket of Reza Hendricks.
25:33That break opened the game.
25:35Many would say.
25:37That was the crucial wicket between winning and losing for the West Indies.
25:40It's a series that you will look back on.
25:42Reflect on and say.
25:44That is how I want to play my cricket.
25:49What Sami said.
25:51He wants to see him be more consistent.
25:54Yeah, the West Indies.
25:56They got off to an absolute flyer.
25:58It was that man again.
26:00Sayhope.
26:0242 of just 24 deliveries.
26:04But ladies and gentlemen.
26:06I'll tell you what.
26:08If you're looking for pocket rockets.
26:10That man, Nicholas Pooran.
26:1242 of just 24 deliveries.
26:14And then Hedmeyer joining in on the party.
26:1631 of 17.
26:18Clinical performance with bed in hand.
26:20Get the team across the line.
26:221-1-6 for two.
26:24Just 9.2 overs.
26:26The relatively inexperienced.
26:28Attacking international cricket.
26:30Really having the type of breakthroughs they wanted.
26:34He on 14.
26:361 for 8.
26:38He was good in his solitary over.
26:40Bachman a bit expensive.
26:42But Williams 2 for 20.
26:44Going at 10.
26:46Smapaka not having his best day.
26:48But at 18 years of age.
26:50He will have a bright future.
26:526th clean sweep for the West Indies.
26:55In T20 international.
26:57Multiple series.
26:59Their second versus South Africa.
27:01And 7 wins in the last 8 T20 internationals.
27:04Winning by 8 wickets.
27:06Under the DLS Metal.
