00:00This is the Star News Brief. I'm Tina Mombonu. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
00:10is set to unleash auctioneers and prominent political leaders to recover over 400 million
00:14shillings caught awards. In what may be baptism by fire for many, IEBC is going after the
00:19political elite who sued it after the 2013 and 2017 polls but lost and were consequently
00:25slapped with punitive damages. While bigwigs with deep pockets may easily pay, the new
00:30IEBC tactic could easily ruin hustlers who unsuccessfully tried their hands in politics.

00:50the night at Nairobi Remand Prison Industrial Area after the court found him guilty of corruptly
00:55enriching himself with 83.3 million shillings when he was in office. He was found guilty
01:00by Anti-Corruption Magistrate Thomas Nzioki on charges of conflict of interest and unlawful
01:05acquisition of property. He was sworn in as Governor in 2013. Lenol Kulal had a company
01:11called Oryx Service Station. Deputy Governors have now taken war with their
01:16bosses to Parliament as they push for radical changes to the new law to entrench their roles.
01:21The DGs yesterday told the Senate Devolution Committee the harrowing ordeals they undergo
01:26in the hands of the county chiefs. They said they have been denied budgets, sabotaged,
01:31humiliated, denied access to meetings and goons unleashed on them.
01:36The Kenya Forest Service has been cited by auditors for lack of ethnic diversity in last
01:40year's recruitment for rangers. A new report by Auditor General Nancy Godungo revealed
01:45that 26% of the 2,666 rangers recruited in February 2023 were from one ethnic community.
01:54The SAID community took up 693 slots, while many others did not get a single chance.
02:00And a Kenya Defence Forces soldier is now seeing a bullet wound after he was shot in
02:04a scuffle with police officers in Kware Mbakasi in Nairobi. The shooting happened on Wednesday
02:09morning, police said. Police said they were on patrol in Pipeline when they arrested three
02:14Kenyan soldiers for questioning of a suspicion of being criminals. The soldiers denied the
02:18claims leading to a scuffle. The injured soldiers were taken to Mamalusi Hospital.
