00:00In mid-August, the Home Office declared that extreme misogyny is set to be treated as a
00:05form of extremism by the UK government under new plans.
00:09Home Secretary Yvette Cooper ordered a review of the UK's counter-extremism strategy in
00:14order to determine how best to tackle threats posed by harmful ideologies.
00:18The review is to look at hatred of women as an ideological trend which, the government
00:22has said, is reportedly gaining traction.
00:25The review itself is expected to be completed by October, using analysis to reportedly,
00:30according to Yvette Cooper,
00:32"...identify any gaps in existing policy which need to be addressed to crack down on those
00:37pushing harmful and hateful beliefs and violence."
00:41As a result, the Home Office added that it will respond to growing and changing patterns
00:45of extremism across the UK in line with the promises in Labour's manifesto.
00:50Misogyny is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as a dislike of, contempt for or ingrained
00:55prejudice against women.
00:57Back in July, the National Police Chiefs' Council declared violence against women as
01:01a national emergency in England and Wales.
