00:00Violence against women on Britain's railway is reported to have increased by a whopping 50%
00:05since 2021. The data, according to the British Transport Authority's 2024 annual report,
00:12reported that most assaults occur during the evening rush hour when packed trains are busy.
00:16Then what these numbers would say to me is we're still at the tip of the iceberg around
00:20confidence in reporting, particularly sexual harassment and male behaviour that women have
00:25tolerated for far too long and for far too many years that needs addressing.
00:30That they will routinely say, I've got a boyfriend, because they know for some men
00:36that'll stop them. So that tells us an awful lot, doesn't it, about the nature of unwanted
00:40sexual intrusions and the attitudes towards women. The idea that if you're a man's property,
00:47i.e. you're with a man, other men need to back off, because otherwise you might get
00:52challenged from the man. But if you're not with another man, then you're fair game.
