00:00In all three preseason games, Gerard Mayo elected to play all four quarterbacks for
00:08the Pats.
00:09It ended on Sunday night in Washington against the Commanders.
00:13Jacoby Brissett won possession, was injured.
00:16Drake May went out there and looked pretty good.
00:18But even after the game, Gerard Mayo had this to say following the preseason finale for
00:24New England.
00:25Drake May is, quote, our second best quarterback.
00:28Then yesterday morning on WEEI in Boston, that's a radio station, Gerard Mayo had this
00:34to say, quote, Drake has outplayed Jacoby, end quote.
00:40So George, make it make sense for us, what is Gerard Mayo even saying?
00:46So he was asked, you know, if Jacoby Brissett gets hurt, is Drake May the guy that'll come
00:51into the game?
00:52And Gerard Mayo goes, 100%, Drake May is our second best quarterback.
00:56And then there was a follow-up from Phil Perry, who does a great job covering the team, going,
01:00is that a yes?
01:01And Gerard Mayo said, I don't know, I need to watch film.
01:04What do you need to watch film of, Gerard?
01:06He needs to watch film of this offensive line.
01:08He can't go out and admit it because I believe he will lose a locker room, he will lose the
01:12team because they will go, wait, wait, wait, hold on, hold on.
01:15We're showing up, putting our bodies on the line, getting our butts kicked to win football
01:18games.
01:20The best quarterback to give us a best chance is Drake May, but you won't put him in because
01:23you don't trust the offensive line.
01:25So again, you're not trying to win games.
01:27And honestly, that's the worst kept secret.
01:29We're saying the quiet thing out loud right now, because everything is all rotating around
01:33Drake May and his success.
01:35Because if Drake May pans out, then the Patriots have their guy and their quarterback for the
01:40next eight to 10 years.
01:42But if they rush him behind a bad offensive line and all the progress he's made, because
01:46coming out of UNC, he was raw, awful footwork, bad mechanics, not good at processing.
01:51And this was a guy who said, we'll have to wait a year or two to really see paybacks
01:55and a return on that high draft pick.
01:57He's come so far.
01:59We talk about that commander's game.
02:00He was making plays with poise, moving around the pocket without a clean pocket ever because
02:05offensive line was makeshift due to injuries.
02:08But with anticipatory throws, making multiple reads, delivering the ball downfield, being
02:13accurate, his best throw of the night was negated because his left tackle couldn't
02:17line up properly on the left side of the line of scrimmage, rolling left, throwing across
02:21his body as a righty, finding a dart to KJ Osborne, who made a great play after the catch
02:26for a touchdown.
02:28But you cannot put Drake May behind this offensive line.
02:31It's not because they're bad.
02:33And I'm not afraid of him playing football.
02:35It's they don't give him a fighting chance.
02:38At Bengals, home against Seattle, at the Jets, at San Francisco.
02:43Those are the first four games.
02:44Come home, Dolphins, Texans, two elite defensive lines and defenses.
02:49We'll see how healthy Miami is.
02:50On the road at London, I don't want his first start coming in a neutral site.
02:54Everything changes on London.
02:55I don't think he should play until week nine, but it's not because of Drake May.
02:59He is ready right now.
03:00He is their best quarterback.
03:02This offensive line isn't ready and this receiving group isn't ready.
03:05Jalen Polk, Taequann Thornton, KJ Osborne, that's your top three.
03:09That's not good for any rookie quarterback.
03:11He's only 21 years old.
03:13He only had two full seasons of starting at UNC.
03:15He's very young.
03:16He's not a Jaden Daniels, a six-year player.
03:19That's 24.
03:20He's not a Trevor Lawrence.
03:21That was a three-year starter.
03:22You can't compare him to these guys.
03:24Even to Caleb Williams.
03:25Yeah, similar in age, but started his season at OU, then of course played two years at USC.
03:29You cannot compare him to these guys with his football experience.
03:32And the most important thing, guys, is you do not want him to digress back to UNC Drake May.
03:38You want him to keep progressing to be an NFL Drake May.
