00:25Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said a large-scale attack on Hezbollah
00:30positions in Lebanon is not the end of the story.
00:34Israel launched a wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday in what it said
00:38was a pre-emptive strike.
00:41Hezbollah said it had launched hundreds of rockets and drones to avenge the killing of
00:45one of its top commanders last month.
01:09The leader of Hezbollah said the group's attack on Israel in retaliation for the killing of
01:13Fuad Shakur in Beirut last month had been delayed to give Gaza's ceasefire talks a chance.
01:43Two Egyptian security sources said that the latest round of ceasefire talks in Cairo have
01:50ended without an agreement, with neither Hamas nor Israel agreeing to any of the compromises
01:55proposed by mediators.
01:58An anonymous U.S. official said talks will continue at lower levels in the coming days
02:02in an effort to bridge remaining gaps.
02:10Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his forces have seized more territory
02:15in Kursk as they advance deeper into the Russian region.
02:19In his nightly video address, he said Ukrainian troops had advanced up to three kilometers
02:23and taken control of two more settlements.
02:27Speaking to the press in Kyiv earlier on Sunday, Zelensky said the Kursk incursion was launched
02:32to stop Russia from occupying the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Sumy.

02:55The Kursk incursion was launched to stop Russia from occupying the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv
03:01and Sumy.
03:04Those comments come after a British national working for Reuters was killed in a Russian
03:08strike on a hotel in Kramatorsk.
03:11The body of safety adviser Ryan Evans was found under the rubble on Sunday after a missile
03:16hit the Hotel Sapphire.
03:18Meanwhile, residents in Ukraine's Sumy region, just over the border from Kursk, are subject
03:23to almost constant shelling by Russian forces.
03:27Ukrainian military and regional authority said on Sunday that Russian attacks on northern,
03:31eastern and southern Ukraine had killed at least four people and injured 37 on Sunday.
03:37But despite Zelensky's claim that the Kursk incursion was supposed to create a buffer
03:41zone to prevent attacks on Ukraine, Russia has continued to pummel border regions.
03:51Solo protesters have gathered outside the French embassy in Moscow to call for the release
03:56of Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who was arrested in France on Saturday.
04:01One protester carried a sign calling on the French not to follow in Putin's footsteps
04:05and to respect freedom of speech.
04:08He was later detained by police officers.
04:11Activists in Russia have tried to skirt the ban on unauthorized protests by staging single-person
04:17pickets, but even they are punishable by a fine or up to 15 days in prison.
04:23Russian-born Durov was arrested after landing in his private jet in an airport outside Paris.
04:28The arrest follows an investigation into the lack of moderators on Telegram.
04:33Police allege that allows criminal activity such as drug dealing and pedophilia networking
04:38to take place unhindered on the app.
04:40Telegram has become one of the leading social media platforms, ranking alongside giants
04:45like Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and Instagram.
04:48However, it still doesn't meet the requirements of the European Union, which has led to it
04:53being temporarily suspended in some member countries such as Spain.
05:03Prosecutors in Germany have released the name of the 26-year-old Syrian man suspected of
05:08killing three people in a stabbing attack in the city of Solingen on Friday.
05:13The man has been identified as Issa al-Aich.
05:16His surname has been withheld in line with German privacy laws.
05:20On Sunday, he was flown by helicopter to appear in the Federal Court of Justice in
05:24Karlsruhe for his first hearing following his arrest on Saturday.
05:29The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office said he'd been remanded in custody on suspicion
05:33of murder and membership of the so-called Islamic State terrorist group.
05:39The German daily newspaper Bild said on Saturday night that al-Aich approached officers on
05:43the street in Solingen just after 11pm local time to turn himself in.
05:49His arrest has sparked relief among many of Solingen's 160,000 residents.
06:15German media reported that al-Aich's asylum claim had been denied and that he was supposed
06:20to have been deported last year.
06:22At a memorial church service on Sunday, some residents said they were afraid the far right
06:27would use the stabbing to whip up hatred of migrants.
06:44The attack happened on a central square in Solingen during the Festival of Diversity,
06:48an event to mark the 650th anniversary of the city.
06:53It was supposed to run until Sunday but was subsequently called off.
06:59Foreign politics, including the war in Ukraine, have been dominating the political discussion
07:04ahead of three East German state elections in September.
07:08Both far left and far right parties are demanding negotiations with Russia and the halting of
07:13weapons deliveries to Ukraine.
07:15Political scientist Dr Karsten Koschmieder says not directly.
08:13If we see, for example, a very strong election result for the AfD in the three federal states,
08:24then the democratic parties will say, okay, what is the reason and what do we need to
08:28change?
08:29And then some will certainly come up with, oh, the AfD is against the EU and against
08:35the EU in the current state, so we have to whip up and say something against the EU.
08:42Neither the far right party Alternative for Germany nor far left party Saar-Wagenknecht
08:52Alliance can govern alone as both parties are expected to draw well below the required
08:5850% of votes needed to form an absolute majority government.
09:04However, if both parties together manage to win more than 50%, then it would be impossible
09:10to form a government without them, at which point either party could start making strong
09:15demands at the negotiation table, demands that are likely to include the halting of
09:22weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

09:31Heat waves and drought have been crippling olive oil production in recent years.
09:36Spain, the world's largest olive oil provider, expects production to drop by 50% in 2024.
09:44On top of creating a perfect breeding ground for counterfeit products, shortages sent prices
09:51through the roof.
09:52A study by farmer association Uñoy Auradora argues supermarkets increased margins over
09:59producers by 75% over last year.
10:05The price at the origin of our producers has gone up by 3%, but the consumer is paying
10:1059% more in the big line.
10:13Supermarkets deny inflating prices.
10:17Olive oil, green, has remained below 10 euros throughout 2024.
10:22Consumer organizations say prices remained high despite the complete elimination of VAT
10:35on olive oil in Spain since July the 1st.
10:41The Paralympic torch has arrived in France after making its journey under the English
10:45Channel from the UK village of Stoke Mandeville.
10:49French torchbearers met their British counterparts at the Channel Tunnel's halfway point, among
10:55them Lara Mills, the great-granddaughter of Sir Ludwig Gutmann, founder of the Paralympic
11:02Movement.
11:03The 24 French relay runners then resumed their journey with the flame toward France, emerging
11:09from the tunnel into Calais.
11:12The flame was then split into separate torches, which have embarked on their tour of their
11:17first 12 host cities along the perimeter of France.
11:27Various activities and para-sport tester sessions have been organized alongside the torch relay
11:33in these cities, and in the capital, a special 13th torch was lit on the 80th anniversary
11:40of the liberation of Paris.
