00:00Star Media Group celebrates 64 award winners at its ESG Positive Impact Awards 2023

00:11SMG Group Chief Executive Officer Chan Seng Fat said the ESG PIA both recognises
00:17the efforts of local businesses toward an inclusive future
00:21and calls on all businesses to incorporate sustainability into their core operations.
00:26This recognition is said to be a beacon of inspiration
00:30showcasing how sustainable practices can be both profitable and socially responsible.
00:38The strong participation in this year's award programme
00:42is a testament to the growing importance of ESG practices in Malaysia
00:47compared to previous years.
00:50We have seen a significant increase in the number of submissions
00:53by 38% to 287 submissions.
00:57This surge reflects our heightened awareness
01:01and commitment towards sustainability among Malaysian businesses.
01:06The ESG PIA, now in its second year, returned bolder with an ESG theme of
01:11Embrace a Sustainable Future.
01:13With 15 categories divided into four award groups,
01:16namely Environment, Social, Governance and Others,
01:20ESG PIA recognises both outstanding ESG practices
01:24in small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-tier companies,
01:27as well as large companies.
01:29Two companies had stood out with their exceptional ESG initiatives,
01:33winning the Most Outstanding ESG Initiative of the Year award
01:36with Malaysia Steelworks Berhad clinching the trophy in the large companies tier,
01:41as well as the Gold Award for Supply Chain Management.
01:44We've internalised ESG best practices for Scope 1, 2 and 3
01:48and that has reduced our cost of production, reduced our emissions
01:53and also particularly for the award tonight, it's for Scope 3
01:57where we green our supply chain, we help our suppliers
02:03to get them to be on the sustainability bandwagon
02:07to help them improve their sustainability reporting.
02:11The winner for the Most Outstanding ESG Initiative
02:14under the SME to Mid-Tier Companies category
02:17was Iskandar Malaysia Studios Sendirian Berhad,
02:20which also won the Gold Award for Energy Efficiency.
02:23I think what is unique about us is that ESG is not just
02:29one of the many things we do, ESG is really what we do,
02:33it's really part of our DNA.
02:36We are predominantly a film and TV production facility,
02:41so it is about energy efficiency but we do have very clear policies
02:47on the social part, the governance part
02:50and I think the big push doesn't really come from on top,
02:57it's really my team here that pushes us, pushes management
03:03and pushes the board to really focus on this.
03:08Guest of Honour, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister
03:12Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said ESG PIA is more than a celebration of excellence
03:18but a testament to the collective efforts of industry leaders
03:21who champion Malaysia's sustainability agenda.

04:41on a positive tide for these businesses.
