00:00Was Nice Pool not actually played by Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and Wolverine?
00:05Or are we just all being punked?
00:07Keep watching for the irreverent backstory.
00:09Deadpool and Wolverine brings roughly 100 different variants of the Merc with a Mouth
00:13to the big screen.
00:15Referred to as the Deadpool Corps, this army of multiverse variants enters Earth-10005
00:20as they prepare to attack Wade Wilson and Logan.
00:23While you might expect many of them to be portrayed by Reynolds himself, he actually
00:27only officially plays one of them.
00:29It's worth noting that Reynolds did originally lend his voice to the Western Deadpool variant
00:33known as Cowboy Pool, a role that eventually went to Matthew McConaughey.
00:37Meanwhile, his wife Blake Lively played Lady Pool, while their children played Kid Pool
00:41and Baby Pool.
00:42But Reynolds' only additional role was the unmasked mercenary referred to as Nice Pool.
00:47However, the end credits list a different name, and it's one that should be familiar
00:50to Ryan Reynolds fans.
00:52Nice Pool is a Deadpool variant with an unburnt face, long hair, and a kindly Canadian disposition,
00:58and the role is credited to Gordon Reynolds.
01:00Perhaps you're thinking that this could be a less-famous relative of Ryan Reynolds.
01:04But no, it's merely the resurgence of a publicity gag that was executed back in 2016 when Ryan
01:09was named GQ Man of the Year.
01:12In a video for the magazine, Ryan played Gordon as his own twin brother and interviewed himself.
01:17And based on how the chat went, we can see why Gordon was considered such an ideal fit
01:21for Deadpool.
01:22First question, why such a c----?
01:25Obviously, though, Gordon Reynolds is just Ryan Reynolds in a different outfit.
01:29The actor didn't even shave his beard to create any clear delineation between the two, so
01:32he must have been really enjoying his facial hair at that time.
01:35It wouldn't be surprising if that scruffy look helped him earn the Man of the Year title
01:39after all.
01:40You certainly can't underestimate the power of a good beard.
01:43Just ask Jake Gyllenhaal.
01:45Hey, Jake.
01:49Gordon Reynolds is downright mean to his twin brother throughout the interview as he asks
01:52him why he can't be like other actors, and by that, he means good at acting.
01:57Then he imagines the possibility of Ryan having a gun to his head, which only brings a menacing
02:01smile to Gordon's face.
02:03And for good measure, he also references an ill-fated comic book movie that preceded Deadpool.
02:08Do you consider Deadpool the Green Lantern of good movies?
02:14While this might not seem like the Nice Pool that we all know and love, that actually makes
02:18the Deadpool and Wolverine credit even funnier.
02:20Must mean that Nice Pool is quite far removed from how the real Gordon acts in real life,
02:25thereby confirming his legitimate acting chops.
02:27And if Nicolas Cage can get an Oscar nomination for playing Charlie Kaufman and his fictional
02:31brother Donald, then there's no good reason to think that the Reynolds siblings can't
02:35also bring home some hardware.
02:37This all leads to the question, could Gordon Reynolds be an even better actor than Ryan?
02:42History will ultimately be the judge of that, but if we're speculating, we can't deny the
02:46possibility that Gordon could one day pull off a performance on the same level as Daniel
02:50Day-Lewis, perhaps as former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to honor his home
02:54country.
02:55And maybe Ryan could play Justin Trudeau to keep it all in the family.
02:59Either way, it's clearly time for Gordon Reynolds to shine!
