00:00And you don't have to be like a freak for being a freak's sake.
00:04Just like you just got to be you and and whatever version of you that is just be the real you.
00:14Here we are.
00:14Here we are, Katy Perry.
00:16This is so fun.
00:16Welcome in.
00:17I feel like I could spend all this time on your intro.
00:19There's so many fun things you're working on.
00:21You have so many accomplishments.
00:23What is something else you were excited to get back to after like some bit more free time from Idol?
00:28Um, well, you know, I, I've had a little bit of not really free time.
00:33I'm just I've created space for other things to exist.
00:37And so we're developing a big show.
00:40I'm going to be playing big, big shows on the album release on September 20.
00:45I'll be in Rio de Janeiro and playing rock in Rio.
00:51And it's like over 100,000 people.
00:54And then I get to go to Australia to play this, the Australian Football League game.
01:00It's kind of like the Super Bowl there, but their version of it.
01:04And I go before that I do a VMA thing, which is really awesome.
01:09It's called the Vanguard Award.
01:10And I get to, I get to just do a celebratory show.
01:14And, you know, we all get to hear the familiar songs and be introduced to some new ones.
01:19Yeah.
01:20Yeah.
01:20I love that.
01:20Going back to the show real quick as you're building that.
01:23Does doing Vegas shows unlock some creativity of like how you want to design the next tour type?
01:28Doing a Vegas show is totally different than a tour show,
01:31because with a tour show, you have to move.
01:32You're on the go every single day.
01:34Vegas, you actually get to play with more toys and like there's less restraints.
01:40But yeah, we're trying.
01:41We're trying.
01:43We're figuring some things out.
01:44I'm just excited to go out into the world again.
01:47It's been a minute since 2018 was my last tour.
01:51Wow.
01:52But then 2019 is when everything started going south.
01:56Actually, 2020, but I was finished in 2018, 19.
02:00And so then everything was on pause.
02:03And then I had my child and I was raising a whole human being and very responsible for.
02:07Oh, yeah.
02:08Wanted to get it right.
02:09So far, so good.
02:12But yeah, I want to go on tour.
02:14I want to go and visit all of my fans who have come out so hard and so supportive and so right.
02:20They have written so hard for me.
02:22And we've, you know, not to like be cheesy, but we have really loved each other for lifetimes.
02:30It feels like it's like, here we go.
02:33Plug, plug, plug.
02:33But the truth is, is like we I've I've grown up with them and we've grown up together and we've
02:39kind of leaned on each other.
02:41And I've seen photos of them when they're 13 and now like, you know, 26, 28, 29.
02:47Like, it's amazing.
02:48They all have like lives, family, some of them.
02:51And it's so cute.
02:54It's adorable.
02:55And I really appreciate it.
02:56So I got to go and pay, pay my give my love out.
03:00And that's what I'm going to go do.
03:02Totally.
03:02It's crazy to think it's been since 2018, though, right?
03:04Is there anything you're nervous at all for, for like going back out and doing those shows?
03:08No, I'm just nervous that the zoos will be closed or some or like, no, because I'm bringing
03:13Daisy and I want her to see like all of the world and the children's museums and the parks
03:18and stuff like that.
03:19No, I'm not nervous of anything.
03:20I'm actually super excited.
03:23And I think live music and the live experience is more alive than ever before.
03:29Oh, yeah.
03:29Yeah.
03:30Oh, I can't wait to see it.
03:31People love to connect in this way now.
03:33Yeah.
03:33Again.
03:34Absolutely.
03:35And talking about growing up with you.
03:36I mean, I feel like I'm one of them.
03:37Like, well, I mean, when I started listening to you, I just remember being on a school bus.
03:42Listen, I kissed a girl.
03:43How young are you?
03:44Right now?
03:44Yes.
03:4528.
03:46Yeah.
03:46So that was formidable years.
03:48We grew up together.
03:49As a teenager.
03:50Kissed a girl, came out.
03:51It's crazy to think about.
03:5212, 13, 12.
03:53You're 12.
03:5411 or 12.
03:55It's a dangerous age.
03:56It's definitely a crossroads.
03:58Yeah, definitely.
03:59Actually, we have a 13 year old.
04:01I have a 13 year old stepson, Orlando's son, and he's 13.
04:04So I know it.
04:05I live it.
04:06Living it right now.
04:07It's great.
04:07But how crazy is it for you to think about like yourself in that time?
04:11And I mean, I even think of 303, like back in those days, Warped Tour, Katie.
04:16Hardcore.
04:17To now, Video Vanguard Award.
04:19I mean, what do you reflect on thinking about reaching that icon status for so many people?
04:23I don't know.
04:25I mean, I still crowd surf places.
04:27So I did that Warped Tour.
04:28I'll continue to do that.
04:30Look, I've got some fun toys to play with now.
04:34And I'm very proud of everything I accomplished.
04:37And I really don't feel like I have anything to prove.
04:40And I'm creating from this abundance space and this artistic space.
04:46And a space, like I said, I always wanted to make a dance pop record.
04:51And so I feel like I've kind of checked that bucket list off for me.
04:55And there's a couple of records that I have in my mind that I still want to make.
04:59And I'll just go along that process if I get the opportunity to.
05:03And so it's kind of like, this is a part of my purpose.
05:07This is a part of my vision for myself.
05:10So I just wake up, and I put my pants on one leg at a time.
05:17Just like the rest of you.
05:18Just like the rest of us.
05:19And literally, I do all the dirty work still, all of it.
05:25I mean, our dog looked me in the eyes and took a poo-poo on the carpet,
05:32just looking me in the eyes yesterday.
05:34And I was like, okay, here we go.
05:35Don't care how many records you sold.
05:37Don't care how many records you sold.
05:38I'm cleaning it up.
05:40I'm cleaning it up.
05:41Gotta respect it for it.
05:42We gotta respect the dog for it?
05:44No!
05:47Bad dog!
05:48Yeah.
05:48He's just living in his own world.
05:50He was living in his own world.
05:52Well, it looks like you're having a blast.
05:53I mean, lifetimes.
05:54I am having a blast.
05:55So good.
05:56It's great for the end of summer.
05:57You're jumping out of helicopters.
05:59Yeah.
05:59I mean, women's world.
06:00Calculated risks.
06:02Yeah.
06:02It wasn't that high, right?
06:03Or did it feel like?
06:0315 to 20 feet.
06:06It had been done before.
06:09It's not like I was the first person to do it.
06:13And I had heard about it.
06:14So I felt better that someone else went first.
06:18But Rolando was screaming at me.
06:20I wasn't really gonna go.
06:21I was gonna just go along for the ride.
06:22And I was like, I guess we're doing this together.
06:25It was great.
06:26It was great.
06:27You have the meditation.
06:28You have some other rituals.
06:29You rub your feet with a lint roller.
06:30I do the little fly thing before bed.
06:32You know, when you get in, you're like...
06:33What?
06:34When did you upgrade to lint roller?
06:35What's the fly?
06:36Like, you know, you get your feet together and you do a little...
06:38Like a fly.
06:39You know, they rub their hands.
06:40Oh, wow.
06:41That's interesting.
06:41I've never...
06:42But I never thought of a lint roller.
06:44No, I don't do it every single night.
06:45I've actually not pulled my lint roller out for a long time.
06:48But...
06:48Keeping them clean.
06:49I know.
06:50But, you know, I do love it.
06:51I really appreciate this invention.
06:54And, you know, in Japan, in Japan, they have floor lint rollers.
06:59So it's like a rug?
07:00No, it's like a broom.
07:02But with a longer lint roller.
07:04And I've seen them and it's amazing.
07:07I saw them the last time I was there.
07:09I was like, oh, I love language.
07:13Do you have one?
07:14Neat and tidy.
07:14I don't, but that's what I want for Christmas.
07:18Do you do any other like bedtime rituals like that?
07:20Because that is, again, people have never heard of that.
07:22Honestly, I like let that go when I had a child.
07:25Bedtime really is like, you know, like you let that go and you're like,
07:29I need to get my child's teeth brushed properly.
07:32Your feet will suffer.
07:33Yeah, who cares about that anymore?
07:36Yeah.
07:36Yeah, I won't.
07:37Yeah, I won't kick anyone out for crumbs in my bed.
07:40It is so good to get to see you.
07:42Is there anything I missed that you want to fill your fans in on?
07:47I just want to tell them I love them.
07:48I'm so excited to see them around the world.
07:53If you want to have a fun dance party or if you want your spirits lifted,
07:57I think 143 will do the trick.
08:00Ah, love it.
08:01Well, congrats on everything.
08:03I can't wait to watch you receive your Video Vanguard Award.
08:05Can't wait for the album to drop.
08:07And congrats on such a good idol run.
08:09I am so happy I got to come and visit and like see how it all works and everything.
08:12And see the dynamics.
08:13Yeah, you did so great.
08:15And it was so fun to watch.
08:16And we did have a lot of fun.
08:17Were you on the second to last a few?
08:20Yeah, it was like almost before the finale.
08:22And you were over there just throwing in words like no big deal.
08:24I saw you.
08:25I was like, oh, here's my op.
08:26By the way, now that you have like you're done everything,
08:29you know all the secrets to all this.
08:31What is the last piece of advice to anyone that really wants to like
08:34get it in and make it on Idol?
08:36Oh, make it on Idol or make it just in music?
08:39Sure, broad.
08:41I think in music because Idol is definitely like a,
08:46it's a crash course.
08:47And then there's, you know, then there's the real world afterwards.
08:50I think you just have to have a really defined personality because
08:55there's so many people offering so much.
08:57It has to be such a defined, such an authentic personality.
09:01Because I mean, speaking of AI, like there's going to be a lot of AI stuff.
09:04And, you know, if you're not like so
09:09defined and authentically defined, someone like Chapel, you know,
09:13it's not going to work anymore.
09:15I mean, you don't and you don't have to be like
09:18a freak for being a freak's sake.
09:21Just like you just got to be you.
09:24And whatever version of you that is just be the real you.
09:28Yeah.
09:29That's a great part.
09:30I love that message.
09:30It's been so fun to have you.
09:32Since you sneaked into what's brewing on Idol,
09:34I made you a very special morning brew mug.
09:37So you can always...
09:38Just for me, bro.
09:39That is for you.
09:41You can always have your morning brew and, you know,
09:44think of the times that we brewed it up.
09:47Yeah, bro.
09:49I sure will.
09:50Absolutely.
09:50Katy Perry.
09:51Thank you so much for stopping by.
09:53I can't wait for everything.
09:54Yeah.
