00:00How about the World Series winning division, not just a team, but a division.
00:09The National League West has the shortest price of the six divisions around Major League
00:13Baseball.
00:14Hard to argue that right now.
00:16The Dodgers and the surging Padres and the Diamondbacks in the second half.
00:21The American League East has both the Yankees, the best team in the American League at this
00:25moment, and the Orioles, who have been a little bit middling throughout this month
00:31of August.
00:32The National League East could very well have two or three teams, more than likely two,
00:37with Philadelphia, who has not been playing great in either the Braves or the Mets.
00:42The American League Central, more than likely, is going to have three of the six American
00:47League playoff teams, and yet has a 7-1 number.
00:51Make that make sense.
00:52The American League West probably only getting one in the same story for the National League
00:56Central.
00:57Not exactly the most optimistic postseason look at the Milwaukee Brewers at a 17-1 price.
01:03DRS, you see the divisional odds of which MLB division is going to win a World Series.
01:09Who would get your bet?
01:10Yeah, probably you're taking a look, and sometimes, obviously, it's going to be plus money, the
01:14plus 230 here with the NL West, but it seems like you're getting a discount and a bargain,
01:19even though they're the highest, or I should say, the lowest odds in the marketplace, because
01:23you're going to get three cracks at the playoffs, and I know the season doesn't end now.
01:27You might be looking at the Padres, hey, the Padres just lost eight of 10 games after that
01:31hot streak here because they've lost back-to-back two games, but if we're just taking a look
01:34at that snapshot of, let's just say, the past month in Major League Baseball, how can you
01:38not go with the NL West?
01:39The Dodgers right now rounding into form, and then you take a look at the Padres and
01:43the Diamondbacks have been absolutely wonderful.
01:45You take a look at the Philadelphia Phillies, who maybe at a time, the Phillies and the
01:48Braves would have been that one-two punch.
01:50I don't think the Braves are very good, and I think the Phillies stink right now, but
01:53again, we're talking about this in the last week of August, not the last week of September.
01:59It is interesting that the AL Central might get multiple teams in at a 7-1 price, but
02:02we're still looking at that AL East and saying to ourself, okay, if Donnie keeps on telling
02:07me the Orioles and the Yankees are the best, that's also a good shot to go to, but it's
02:12not just saying, well, I'm just going to take the lowest odds on the board.
02:15I truly believe the NL West is the best division in baseball, and you're getting three cracks
02:20at teams just to make it to the World Series in an effort to win it.
02:24That's the way you have to go at this point.
02:26Yeah, absolutely.
02:27So Donnie is spot on.
02:29Quantity and quality-wise, the NL West checks every box.
02:33The Padres' number is still 21-1 to win a World Series, same price for Arizona.
02:38The Dodgers remain the short favorites at plus 320, but three numbers in the 10 best
02:43prices to win a World Series out of the same division.
02:46But what about the quantity of the American League Central, where I do think you have
02:50some value perhaps at that 7-1 number on the division as a whole, but the two best prices
02:56are the Twins and the Guardians at 16-1 to win the World Series.
03:02That's tied for sixth best, and the fifth best number is nearly half those two prices.
03:08It's the Houston Astros at plus 950.
03:11Just quality, the American League East, with the battle for the top spot between the Yankees
03:16and the Orioles, is probably where you would look.
03:20New York, plus 500, third best price, only 20 cents back of Philadelphia for that second
03:27best number, less than $2 back of the Dodgers, and the Orioles at plus 750 have the fourth
03:33best number.
03:34So the division in the American League East has two of the four best prices.
03:38Again, the odds maker is giving that division and the two top teams a very optimistic outlook.
03:43Absolutely, and they should.
03:45So if we're looking also down the list, 17-1, the NL Central, the reason why these are interesting
03:49prices is because we're not even saying at this point, sometimes you look at the wildcard
03:53race, Ben, and say, you know what, I'm going to pick a team that's three and a half games
03:56back out of the wildcard right now because they have a great price.
03:59Well, at the end of the season, they might not make it into the playoffs, so forget about
04:02that great price.
04:03You take a look at the NL Central, the only reason I'm bringing it up is somebody has
04:07to go into the playoffs as the divisional winner.
04:10Somebody is going to get a first-round home series in their own building.
04:15So even though the teams aren't really advantageous, they're like, ooh, I don't know if they can
04:19win it, but 17-1, you should say like, okay, well, maybe a team doesn't get in because
04:23only the top five or six records go in, and let's just say they don't have that.
04:27But somebody's got to get in.
04:28Same thing with the AL West.
04:29As much as you say to yourself about the Houston Astros, ooh, Donnie didn't like them throughout
04:33the season, and maybe I can't get on board, but they're going to win that division.
04:38They're going to be home.
04:39Their pitching staff might even be getting healthier as we go towards the break.
04:42So it's easy to say for me, NL West at that plus-2.30 price, yes, it makes some sense
04:47because I think you have three of the best baseball teams in Major League Baseball in
04:51that same division.
04:52But at the same time, you'd be hard-pressed to leave out those final couple teams because
04:57every single team, excuse me, every single division is going to get at least one team
05:01in and that division winner does get home field advantage, at least for round number one.
