India’s PM Modi makes first-ever visit to Kyiv amidst Russia-Ukraine conflict

  • last month
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Kyiv for talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marking the first visit by an Indian leader to Ukraine since it gained independence in 1991.

Modi’s visit comes after a controversial trip to Moscow in July, which drew sharp criticism from Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian President had condemned the Moscow visit as a ‘huge disappointment’ and a setback for peace efforts.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, highlighted the importance of Modi's visit, noting that New Delhi ‘really has a certain influence’ over Moscow.
