Tarzan and the Green Goddess (1935) [Action] [Adventure]

Different people search for different reason for "The Green Goddess", the Guatemalan idol. A friend of Tarzan, D'Arnot, has crashed in Guatemala and is now held by a jungle tribe. Two other expeditions, one lead by Major Martling and one by Ula Vale whose fiance died in an earlier one, are looking for the valuable idol, too. Raglan, Ula's lawyer, is searching as well, but only to keep it to himself. Tarzan, Ula and Major Martling rescue D'Arnot and find the idol that is worhiped by the natives. More adventures follow through the jungle of losing and recapturing the idol.

00:00:59Guatemala, a strange and beautiful country many thousands of miles away.
00:01:04A country with lofty snow-crested mountains, mighty rivers and deep lakes.
00:01:09Quaint little villages and picturesque natives.
00:01:12This is Guatemala on the surface.
00:01:15What a tourist might see, if a tourist could ever get there.
00:01:19But under this superficial beauty lie many unsuspected dangers.
00:01:24Those mighty rivers run through treacherous jungle where wild animal life lurks in the shadows.
00:01:29Man-eating lions roam abroad.
00:01:32The deep lakes are infested with crocodile and alligators.
00:01:40And the natives may look picturesque, but are deadly to a white man.
00:01:45In the heart of this impenetrable jungle stand the ruins of all that is left of an ancient Mayan civilization.
00:01:52Older fire than Guatemala.
00:01:55The natives today are in great anger.
00:01:57Their ancient idol, the green goddess, has been snatched from the high altar.
00:02:02The high priest vows to avenge by a slow and torturing death,
00:02:06the violator and desecrator of the sacred cathedral.
00:02:10But unknown to the natives, unknown even to the high priest,
00:02:13this stolen idol is more than a graven image.
00:02:17For hidden inside it is a secret formula for a new explosive.
00:02:21Powerful and deadly enough to blow whole cities sky high.
00:02:25A potential menace to modern civilization.
00:02:27And a real menace should the formula fall into unscrupulous hands.
00:02:32Tarzan and his band of intrepid followers, both men and women, have faced untold dangers.
00:02:38Wild animals, hostile natives, a rival expedition of murderous crooks,
00:02:43and the horrors of fever-infested swamps to take the idol from the natives
00:02:48that the secret formula might be safe.
00:02:51At last successful, with the goddess in their possession,
00:02:54the Tarzan expedition starts on its long and arduous journey home.
00:02:58Everything's checked, Major Martley.
00:03:01Splendid.
00:03:02Well, I hope you have a nice trip to Livingston.
00:03:06Goodbye, sir.
00:03:07And good luck.
00:03:09Miss Vejo.
00:03:10Goodbye.
00:03:11Goodbye, Tarzan.
00:03:13Goodbye, old man.
00:03:14Goodbye, George.
00:03:16Goodbye.
00:03:16Nothing to do now but go home, sir.
00:03:22Right, George.
00:03:24Homeward bound at last, to the green goddess.
00:03:28And our mission fulfilled, Martley.
00:03:30Yes, thanks to you, old man.
00:03:34Our only remaining task is the safe return of this relic to civilization.
00:03:40So, shall we proceed?
00:03:41Surely.
00:03:43I'll get Nakim and follow.
00:03:45Tomas.
00:03:49Get your banners ready.
00:03:50Put your best man on this.
00:04:14Senior Powers here.
00:04:18I'm Raglin.
00:04:34Well, Raglin.
00:04:39What success?
00:04:41Did you find the dead city?
00:04:44Yes, I found the dead city and the goddess.
00:04:48The goddess, eh?
00:04:51Well, where is it?
00:04:54Well, it was in my hands when...
00:04:56Oh, never mind the excuses.
00:05:00Where is the idol now?
00:05:02The Martling expedition has it.
00:05:05So, the Martling expedition has it, eh?
00:05:09Colonel Blunder, do you realize what your mistake means?
00:05:12We've lost a fortune.
00:05:14That green goddess contained a formula for ancient Mayan explosives.
00:05:18Any nation would give millions to get it, millions.
00:05:21Well, I'd like to see you got them from that ape man.
00:05:24The ape man?
00:05:29Do you mean Tarzan?
00:05:32I wonder if you know what it means to be in the jungles with him on your trail.
00:05:37Any moment, a lad will have dropped down out of a tree,
00:05:40lurking in the very shadows, his hands almost touching your throat.
00:05:46Why, I tell you, man, I was lucky to get out of there with my life, let alone any goddess.
00:05:58Look here, Raglin.
00:06:01We still have a chance.
00:06:03I'll leave at once for the east coast.
00:06:06I'll have Simon Blade meet you with his ship at Libby.
00:06:10Now, there's only one trail leading to the re-adultery,
00:06:13and the Martling expedition will have to travel on it to get to the river.
00:06:17Sure.
00:06:19Now, what's to prevent you from all this?
00:06:26Now, you get men hidden on both sides of the ravine.
00:06:31Si, senor.
00:06:33Good.
00:06:56That's better.
00:07:05I wish Tarzan wouldn't lag behind us like this.
00:07:08Maybe something's happened to him.
00:07:10Ridiculous.
00:07:12What would happen to Tarzan?
00:07:14You never can tell.
00:07:16Suppose, uh, suppose some of those monsters from the dead city has followed us.
00:07:20Well, you know, they may be right.
00:07:21Don't be silly, George.
00:07:23There isn't anything to fear any longer.
00:07:56Come on, let's keep going.
00:08:03Get your men moving.
00:08:55Tarzan!
00:09:25Si, senor.
00:09:42Indian, get garbage.
00:09:55Oh,
00:10:14are you all right?
00:10:16I think so.
00:10:19I still have to get that code book from Martling.
00:10:22You watch the goddess while I see what I can do.
00:10:25The goddess, it's gone.
00:10:33What did I tell you?
00:10:34Didn't I tell you that those fellows from the ruins would be on our trail?
00:10:38Whoever stole the goddess had no connection with the dead city, George.
00:10:41Whom do you suspect then?
00:10:43It wouldn't surprise me if it were Raglan.
00:10:47What about the document?
00:10:53Thank heaven they didn't get it.
00:10:56The code is no good without the goddess.
00:10:59Without this document, the thief dare not open the goddess.
00:11:03He'd be blown to atoms by the secret explosive it contains.
00:11:07Then there's still a chance to recover the goddess.
00:11:09Have the porters make camp.
00:11:11Hamas, prepare camp here.
00:11:25So
00:11:56do.
00:12:08Major, Major.
00:12:12Raglan.
00:12:15Raglan.
00:12:24What happened?
00:12:28Take your time, Martin.
00:12:32It was Raglan.
00:12:37The book, gone.
00:12:46So
00:13:01you two men go to Manteep and send that message from the radio office.
00:13:05If all goes well, I'll meet you at Puerto Berrios.
00:13:15Well, what's the matter, little fellow?
00:13:38Let me see what's bothering you.
00:13:41Well, no wonder you're limping.
00:13:45All right, I'll have it out in a moment.
00:13:52There it is.

00:19:11There's been no word?
00:19:13No, senor. Your friend has sent no message.
00:19:17I'm going to my room.
00:19:19If anyone inquires from me, I'm not there.
00:19:22You understand?
00:19:24Perfectly.
00:19:40Everything all right?
00:19:46Well, did we get any word?
00:19:48Yes, there's a radiogram for you.
00:20:10Ligua.
00:20:11Ah, you mean Kirigua.
00:20:14Where is it? How do you get to it? By boat?
00:20:16No, it's in the interior. You'll have to cut through the jungle to get there.
00:20:22Gordon.
00:20:23Yes, sir.
00:20:24Can I rely on you to do just one thing correctly?
00:20:27Oh, yes, sir.
00:20:29Well, stay around here.
00:20:30I have no time to waste looking for you when I return.
00:20:33I'll be over on that bench and I'll stay right there.
00:20:37I'll see that you do.
00:20:38No, sir.
00:20:39Oh, I mean, yes.
00:21:09Come on.
00:21:39George!
00:21:42George!
00:21:58And what is the meaning of this?
00:22:00Well, you see, sir, I sat down on that bench with the best of intentions.
00:22:06But this guy insisted that I see Portagarius.
00:22:10And besides, he had my yo-yo.
00:22:16Come on.
00:22:17Yes, sir.
00:22:37Our search has ended, Martling.
00:22:39What do you mean?
00:22:40Raglan was on that balcony just a moment ago.
00:22:45What are you going to do?
00:22:47Jungle tracking is for me.
00:23:03I'd like to deal with the Raglan.
00:23:05There is no one here by that name.
00:23:10He may use another name.
00:23:12I've already told you he is not here.
00:23:14Very well.
00:23:16We'll wait for him.
00:23:35Ah!
00:23:36Ah!
00:23:37Ah!
00:24:05Oh!
00:24:35Oh!
00:25:05Oh!
00:25:26Oh, gosh!
00:25:27Look!
00:25:29Come on.
00:25:36You hurt badly, old man?
00:25:38Gee!
00:25:39I think all your bones will be broken.
00:25:41I'm all right, George.
00:25:45Well, then, what happened?
00:25:49I found Raglan in a room up there and attempted to get the eye a little bit.
00:25:59Listen, you get some native bearers.
00:26:01And we'll meet you at the south end of town.
00:26:05All right, chief.
00:26:07We can certainly be thankful you recovered the code.
00:26:11Yes.
00:26:13But if I hadn't been so impulsive, he might have the goddess, too.
00:26:20What is it?
00:26:32It's a clue to Raglan's route and plans.
00:26:34Look.
00:26:38Let us find some bearers and start at once.
00:26:40We must stop them before we meet the others.
00:26:44Here. You better take care of this.
00:26:51Say, what's the idea, chief?
00:26:53What's your hurry?
00:26:55Tarzan.
00:26:56He might be on our trail.
00:26:57Not a chance.
00:26:58Not after falling off that balcony, will he?
00:27:00He must have broken his neck.
00:27:03Not Tarzan.
00:27:04He's got more lives than the jungle animals he plays with.
00:27:07You wait back there for me.
00:27:08If Tarzan comes, you'll be needing all the men.
00:27:10Don't worry. We'll handle him.
00:27:16All right, boys.
00:27:33Hey, I wonder if the chief is right about Tarzan being on our trail.
00:27:37Ah, that chief is crazy.
00:27:39I tell you, that guy Tarzan is as dead as a mackerel.
00:28:02Hey!
00:28:30Guard!
00:28:32Wait!
00:28:34Oh, let me finish him.
00:28:35No, let's hold him until the chief gets back.
00:28:37Then we can force him into all the martiniers and get the coat buck back.
00:28:40Get a rope from his back and we'll tie him up.
00:29:02That'll hold until the chief gets back.
00:29:32Shh, shh.
00:30:02Shh.
00:30:32What was that?
00:30:33You asking me?
00:31:03There it is again.
00:31:14Hey!
00:31:15Stop!
00:31:18Hey!
00:31:19Hey!
00:31:20Hey!
00:31:21Hey!
00:31:22Hey!
00:31:23Hey!
00:31:24Hey!
00:31:25Hey!
00:31:26Hey!
00:31:27Hey!
00:31:28Hey!
00:31:29Hey!
00:31:30Hey!
00:31:31Come back here!
00:32:02Hey!
00:32:18Don't!
00:32:19No!
00:32:22No!
00:32:23No!
00:32:24We were just obeying orders.
00:32:26Come here.
00:32:27Where's Raglin?
00:32:28Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:29He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goddess.
00:32:30All right.
00:32:31Get out of here, both of you.
00:32:32And don't stop until you get to Fort Avery.
00:32:33Where's Raglin?
00:32:34Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:35He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goddess.
00:32:36All right.
00:32:37Get out of here, both of you.
00:32:38And don't stop until you get to Fort Avery.
00:32:39Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:40He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goddess.
00:32:41All right.
00:32:42Get out of here, both of you.
00:32:43And don't stop until you get to Fort Avery.
00:32:44Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:45He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goddess.
00:32:46All right.
00:32:47Get out of here, both of you.
00:32:48And don't stop until you get to Fort Avery.
00:32:49Oh, they're out somewhere.
00:32:50He didn't want anyone to know where he hid the goddess.
00:32:51All right.
00:32:52Get out of here, both of you.

00:40:37Nango, try to find Major Martley.
00:40:39He must be somewhere at the top of the falls.
00:40:41Sí, señorita.
00:41:12Tarzan!
00:41:15Miss Leia.
00:41:21The book. I've lost the code book to the goddess.
00:41:25The book is safe, Tarzan.
00:41:27But how? Where?
00:41:29You dropped it when we brought you ashore.
00:41:32But Raglan made his escape with the goddess.
00:41:35We saw him headed downstream in a cayuca.
00:41:38Then I must hurry after him at once.
00:41:40What is it, Nango? Speak English.
00:41:43Black Devil, take away Señor Mufflin, Señor George.
00:41:48Black Devil? What do you mean?
00:41:50He means Queen Maya's monsters.
00:41:52The black-robed emissaries of the High Prince.
00:41:55Take your men and return to camp.
00:41:57And you?
00:41:59I'm going to try to pick up their trail.
00:42:01But Tarzan!
00:42:02Did he come, señorita?
00:42:04No. We're heading for the dead city.
00:42:07If Tarzan loses their trail, we may be able to help.
00:42:10But señorita, those black devils...
00:42:13Never mind. Hurry up.
00:42:32The black-robed emissaries of the High Prince.
00:42:37The black-robed emissaries of the High Prince.
00:42:40The black-robed emissaries of the High Prince.
00:43:00You are to be held as hostages for the safe return of the Green Goddess.
00:43:05Do you speak English?
00:43:07Who are you?
00:43:09Who am I?
00:43:11What does it matter?
00:43:13Once I was known in the world of science.
00:43:16But 20 years ago I cast my lot with these people.
00:43:21And I am content.
00:43:29No, he...
00:43:31He demands to know where you have taken the Green Goddess.
00:43:35It was stolen and carried away by someone else.
00:43:37Someone not in our party.
00:43:51You must produce the Goddess.
00:43:53If you fail, you die.
00:44:07Look out!
00:45:07Look out!
00:46:07The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince
00:46:37The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince

00:49:07The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince
00:49:17The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince
00:49:37The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince
00:49:41Ah, Pedro!
00:49:44Simon Blade here.
00:49:45Yeah, on board the ship off Carob Point.
00:49:49Listen, I'm being watched.
00:49:52I can't come aboard until dusk.
00:49:54I'll have a man signalling you from the point.
00:49:59Do you understand?
00:50:00Aye, aye, sir.
00:50:07What do we do now?
00:50:08Crawl through here.
00:50:09When they come for me, we'll make a break for it.
00:50:21Keep up your nerve.
00:50:22Here they come.
00:50:37The Black-Robed Emissaries of the High Prince
00:51:02Oh, look!
00:51:08Where have they brought us here?
00:51:10You're to be questioned by the High Priest through me.
00:51:15These instruments bring out truthful answers.
00:51:19But I've already told you.
00:51:21We haven't the Green Goddess, nor do we know where it is.
00:51:24A fellow by the name of Raglan got it.
00:51:26And we don't know what he did with it.
00:51:29What are they going to do to me?
00:51:31That boy can tell them nothing.
00:51:33Let them question me.
00:51:38Help!
00:51:43Help!
00:52:07Oh, my God!
00:52:37Help!
00:52:39Help!
00:53:05Thank heaven we escaped without any casualties.
00:53:08Say, what would happen to Raglan if the monsters caught him with the Goddess?
00:53:12I don't think they will, George.
00:53:15By now, Raglan's probably found a safe refuge.
00:53:18Don't give up hope, Major.
00:53:20We may yet catch Raglan.
00:53:22When I saw him heading downstream, I sent one of my men after him.
00:53:26He'll either return with news or send word.
00:53:29Look!
00:53:30Someone's coming.
00:53:34It must be Lopez.
00:53:35The messenger says he's sent from the Antiques.
00:53:55How are you, Lopez?
00:53:56Fine, thank you.
00:54:01Are you Raglan?
00:54:02Yes.
00:54:03Yes.
00:54:04Senor Lopez.
00:54:08Raglan seems to be waiting for someone at Mantique.
00:54:11But whom?
00:54:12Jose does not yet know.
00:54:14Well, is Jose still watching Raglan?
00:54:16Oh, si, senor.
00:54:18And there's a strange sailing ship laying off the shore south of Mantique.
00:54:22And Jose thinks that possibly those whom Raglan's waiting for are on board that boat.
00:54:28I'd like to see that mysterious ship.
00:54:29The Cayuca won't carry all of us, so I'll cut through the jungle and meet you at Mantique.

00:57:49And who's the bungler now?
00:57:52Well, mister?
00:57:54The contents, the jewels, and the formula are aboard this ship now.
00:57:59You mean that Markling has chartered this vessel?
00:58:05Exactly.
00:58:06He wanted to escape you.
00:58:09I made it my business to see that this was the only ship available.
00:58:12Boy, Blade, that's very clever.
00:58:16Very, very clever.
00:58:17Well, why not get what we want and get rid of these people?

00:58:57I know you're going to have a very pleasant voyage.
00:58:59I'm sure of it.
00:59:00Now, Major, if you'll excuse me, I'll give orders to set sail.
00:59:04Splendid.
