The Northern Territory election is in its final day of campaigning before voters cast their ballots tomorrow. Both leaders have made their final pitches across the top end.

00:00Well, there's little over 24 hours left in this political campaign between Eva Lawler,
00:07the leader of the Labor Party and incumbent Chief Minister, and Lea Finocchiaro, Opposition
00:12Leader. Both parties have homed in on crime as a major issue, extolling their credentials
00:18and how they're going to bring it under control in the Northern Territory. Eva Lawler today
00:22remarking that she's the safe pair of hands to continue the job she started as Chief in
00:28December and earlier mentioned how despite the campaign has been a contest of ideas,
00:33it's been one fought fairly.
00:35So this has been actually probably a textbook election campaign. And you know, that's what
00:41you get with two women that are leading. You get hard work and just getting on and doing
00:46the business. So I will give Lea praise for that because I think it's been an actually
00:50really tidy and a good campaign.
00:52As for Lea Finocchiaro, the Opposition Leader says now is the time for change in the country.
00:57The Liberal Party is the right party to bring it about.
01:01Our pitch has really been about choose change. It's about moving forward as a jurisdiction.
01:06We really need to reduce crime, rebuild our economy and restore our lifestyle. Labor have
01:11had three Chief Ministers in three years. They've been in power 19 of the last 23 years.
01:17So it's certainly our message to Territorians that it's time for change and we can't afford
01:22another four years of Labor.
01:24When polls close at 6pm, it'll be the magic number of 13 seats both parties will need
01:29to reach to form a majority government. Labor currently sits on 14, so can only afford to
01:35lose one if it wants to cling on to its current majority. They could offset some losses by
01:41winning seats, particularly in the bush, in the central part of the Northern Territory
01:45around the Barclay. They are hopeful of trying to pick up a seat there, while they're also
01:49looking at the seat of Namatjira on the outskirts of Alice Springs and covering many remote
01:55communities in Central Australia.
01:57Meantime, the country Liberal Party sit on 7 seats. They need to win at least 6 seats
02:02to form a majority government. Where they win those remains to be seen. They are confident
02:07of trying to strike in the outer Darwin suburban area of Palmerston, as well as Darwin's northern
02:13suburbs and some inner city seats.
02:16Because there are so many seats in the Northern Territory that are quite close, and by their
02:20very nature the electorates only number around 6,000 voters, it could be a long night of
02:26counting when the polls close at 6pm tomorrow night. Indeed, it may be either the Labor
02:31or country Liberal Party has to turn to the crossbench to try and form a minority government.
02:37The picture of the Northern Territory Parliament will start to be revealed after 6pm tomorrow night.
