Transcript
00:00The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, or MDRRMO, of Calatagan, Batangas
00:06has alerted residents near the shores of Taal Lake due to a green-yellow discoloration of the water.
00:12The change in the color of the lake water was observed only on August 21,
00:16especially in the towns of Talisay, Balete, and Tanawan.
00:20According to an analysis by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR Region 4A, Batangas,
00:26this is caused by an algal bloom or an increase in phytoplankton due to the hot weather
00:32and rising levels of nutrients in the water.
00:35The Calatagan LGU clarified this has nothing to do with the latest volcanic activity,
00:40but reminded residents to avoid going into Taal Lake until it returns to its original color,
00:45as it could cause skin irritation.
