Water bombers arrive on Portuguese island of Madeira
The aircraft will assist local authorities in combating the fires which have raged on the island for the past week.

00:09The spokesperson for the EU Commission, Balazs Juval, said that after Portugal activated
00:17the EU civil protection mechanism, the EU provided two firefighter jets and implemented
00:23additional measures.
00:45In anticipation of this year's fire season, the bloc has strengthened its rescue and European
00:51civil protection pool capabilities.
00:54The EU's response now includes 28 airplanes and four helicopters from 10 member states.
01:00Additionally, over 560 firefighters from 12 countries have been deployed across Europe
