TAR UMT's new Student and SME Centre nears completion
The topping-out ceremony for TAR UMT's new Student and SME Centre marks a significant milestone for the university, according to MCA president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Speaking after the ceremony on Thursday (Aug 22), Dr Wee, who also serves as the chairman of the Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) Education Foundation board of trustees, emphasised that the centre is a crucial component of the university's growth and development, as outlined in its 10-year roadmap.

00:00The University Student and SME Centre is yet another important effort of TAU-UMT towards
00:17nation building.
00:18With this vision to be the central hub of all student activities and SME ventures, the
00:25Centre in a way will play a crucial role in developing well-rounded human capital and
00:33unleashing highly potential SMEs who are capable of strengthening the country's economic foundation.
00:41The six-storey building with a gross floor area of 1.5 million sqft will cater to student
00:50needs for a healthy and progressive campus life.
00:55Firstly, is the Student Centre, which is a recreational hub equipped with FMV outlets
01:03and student lounges, and there will be ample conducive spaces for students, clubs and societies
01:12to organise their activities.
01:14Secondly, there is a dedicated area for sports facilities such as a FIFA-certified standard
01:25full-size football field, running tracks, multi-purpose indoor sports courts and many
01:32others.
01:33Then, we will also have a learning space and facilities which encompasses an auditorium,
01:41student activity rooms and multi-purpose activities hall.
01:45Next is the exciting SME Centre, which will be well equipped with meeting and seminar
01:54spaces and also facilities where faculties showcase exhibition halls, galleries, a networking
02:02lounge, co-working space and a pitching hall.
02:06The aim here is to enable small businesses to transform their ideas into reality with
02:13the necessary support, resources and a community of all-minded, all-white-minded individuals.
02:22And lastly, the Student Centre will also host a vast indoor car park which can accommodate
02:29more than 1,400 cars.
02:33All in all, it will be a centre that will further strengthen the vibrancy of TUMPs beyond
02:41education campus environment, which has been our aim for this centre.
02:46With this being said, I am sure all of you would have seen the extensiveness of this
02:53centre as you drove into the campus for this ceremony.
02:59But aside to behold, considering the journey we took to finally reach this point of development
03:06was challenging and at times almost impossible to achieve.
03:11I am glad that our collective efforts and contributions, we celebrated the groundbreaking
03:18ceremony of students at SME Centres back in 2021 during the COVID-19 time.
03:26And today, we are crossing to the next level of this adventure before reaching the final
03:33stage towards the grand launch of TAEWON in Students and SME Centres next year.
