Hsinchu Mayor Ann Kao has been sentenced to ten months in prison for a falsely accusing a U.S.-based academic of defamation.

00:22Chen then countersued Gao, resulting in the 10-month sentence.
00:25Gao also faces up to seven years for embezzlement and says she'll appeal the latest sentence.
