00:00Minecraft is one of the biggest games of all time, and of course, the popularity has caused
00:04millions of memes to break through the crack. I think the earliest memes in the world of Minecraft
00:07often just looked like you would expect, Steve's head in front of a pinwheel of classic Minecraft
00:11blocks, some which don't even exist in that texture anymore, with some insane impact font.
00:14One can immediately think back to a time where Minecraft parody songs roamed the internet,
00:19like the awe-inspiring pipes from Mine Diamonds, a Minecraft parody of Take on Me that went viral
00:23in 2016. In the early 2010s, creepy characters like Slenderman or Jeff the Killer populated
00:27internet spaces, and so Minecraft needed its own, too. On August 30th, 2010, a Minecraft
00:31forum user posted this creepypasta about a Herobrine, a distant figure lurking in the fog.
00:36The character was never actually in the game, obviously, but it became so prevalent in the
00:39culture that the developers would even jokingly add removed Herobrine to the patch notes of updates.
00:44It definitely was a lot scarier, too, when everyone's computers could only load 10 blocks
00:48in front of them. Minecraft used to be a horror game. Minecraft Manhunt, the 2b2t server, Minecraft
00:52YouTubers, god, there's too many of them. People started saying in Minecraft at the end of their
00:56sentences to lighten the load of an ironic statement.
