00:00In California, lawmakers want to use $1 billion in bonds to redevelop seaports for offshore
00:08wind energy projects, even as the industry faces challenges like losing subsidies and
00:13increasing costs.
00:14You might remember we've reported on several offshore wind developers in the Northeast
00:18canceling or delaying projects because of these growing costs.
00:22Nevertheless, California is forging ahead.
00:25Last year, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new law that gave California the ability to
00:29buy electricity from these wind facilities, regardless of the rate.
00:34This was to make sure that changes in costs would not interfere with the projects, and
00:38so that companies know there's still a market for it.
00:41The law is expected to increase electricity bills for Californians, though how much is
00:46still not known.
