People on the street: Should donkey rides be banned?

  • last month
Recently, petitions calling for donkey rides at the beach to be banned have been gaining traction, so we hit the streets of Manchester to ask people if they have fond memories of donkey rides, or whether they think a ban is the right move.

00:00Hi I'm Theo with Manchester World, today I'm out on the streets of Manchester
00:03talking to people about donkey rides at the beach and we know that can sound a
00:07little bit strange but a petition's been signed by many many people wanting to
00:11ban it and that's because we can't be sure of the conditions that the donkeys
00:13are kept in. So we want to know whether people have fond or negative memories of
00:17riding donkeys at beaches and whether they'd support a ban. As a kid yeah but
00:22like we'd never like it is when you see it now it is really sad to see and you
00:27wish you hadn't done it as a kid. Yeah obviously if you know the donkey is not
00:30our pair then it's not. We've not seen donkeys at beaches, I think I've seen them in Blackpool
00:35maybe in Whitby. I like to think that we live in an age where the donkeys are
00:40like treated well. If it's like a family thing and you've like brought it up and it
00:44trusts you and stuff then like I you know I understand like riding it and it
00:48being like kind of like your pet but like they work a long long hours in like
00:52really boiling hot weather and like I do feel sorry for them because they don't
00:56look happy most of the time they do look a little bit sad.
