Phivolcs, nilinaw na hindi vog ang haze na nararanasan sa Metro Manila
Transcript
00:00Meanwhile, Vivolts clarified that the haze that is experienced in Metro Manila is not a fog.
00:06This is Rod Laguzad's report.
00:10Compared to Monday,
00:11the number of places in Batangas that are still affected by volcanic smog or fog has decreased.
00:17This includes Laurel, San Nicolás, Agoncillo, Talisay, Balete, Lemery, Cuenca, Malvar, Lipa, Taal, Lian, and Nasugbu.
00:28A big factor here is the rain yesterday.
00:30So in Metro Manila, it rained and then in Taal, it also rained.
00:37Earlier, there was still steaming that reached 1,200.
00:45But the wind was a bit faster earlier, at 2 meters per second.
00:51So this is relatively faster than the previous days that we observed.
01:00Steaming is the volcanic activity that is seen as white smoke,
01:04which is accompanied by sulfur dioxide.
01:07And if it is not dispersed immediately,
01:09there will be fog here,
01:11where it does not rise immediately and remains in a lower place.
01:16The presence of fog depends on several factors,
01:20such as the amount of sulfur dioxide that is released,
01:25the humidity, wind direction, presence or absence of rain, among others.
01:30When you're talking about fog, whether it's thick or not,
01:34it's less now because the affected area is also less.
01:39According to Phibox, it is possible that this will happen again in the same situation.
01:43Based on their observation, there is no steaming every day.
01:47According to the agency,
01:48there was a lot of sulfur dioxide emission after the 2020 eruption,
01:53where before this, there was a little or almost no steam.
01:57Meanwhile, according to Phibox,
02:00there was not a lot of fog in Metro Manila.
02:03Metro Manila, the haze that we are seeing,
02:07is most likely due to local pollutants rather than fog.
02:10Because for the past several days,
02:13the wind in Metro Manila and Batangas was too slow.
02:17In Batangas, the sulfur dioxide cannot rise,
02:20it becomes fog.
02:21Here in Metro Manila, the pollutants cannot rise,
02:26it becomes local haze.
02:27First, Phibox said that the fog is not limited
02:30to the increase in the alert level of Volcang Taal
02:33or if it is a sign that it will erupt again,
02:35especially since there is no known volcanic earthquake.
