00:00Basking in an extended standing ovation from the packed convention hall, it was the send-off
00:11Joe Biden had hoped to defer for another four years. However, the outgoing U.S. president
00:16insisted he was not bitter about stepping aside.
00:20I love the job, but I love my country more. And all this talk about how I'm angry at all
00:26those people who said I should step down, that's not true.
00:32Biden spent parts of his nearly hour-long speech criticising Donald Trump, calling him
00:37a loser and convicted felon, as well as ticking through his achievements in office, sharing
00:43the credit with his vice president and the party's presumptive nominee, Kamala Harris.
00:48Because of you, we've had one of the most extraordinary four years of progress ever.
00:54Period.
00:55When I say we, I mean Kamala and me.
01:02Passing the torch to Harris, Biden promised to be the best volunteer she and her running
01:07mate Tim Walz had ever seen. Harris had made a surprise appearance earlier in the evening
01:12expressing gratitude for the president.
01:15Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation
01:21and for all you will continue to do.
01:25Monday also saw several high-profile Democrats take to the stage in Chicago. In a fiery speech,
01:31former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she hoped Harris could do what she could
01:35not, invoking a metaphor from her 2016 concession speech.
01:40Together we put a lot of cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling.
01:47On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala Harris raising her hand and taking
01:54the oath of office as our 47th president of the United States.
02:00She and other speakers sought to hammer home a particular message that America was embarking
02:05on a new chapter in its story.
