Coalition agrees to pass Labor’s CFMEU bill

The Coalition has agreed to pass the federal government's urgent bill to force the embattled CFMEU into administration.

00:13The bill that was tabled by the minister in the parliament, four sitting days to go, looked
00:19like quite frankly it could have been drafted by John Setka.

00:27We are now in a position to provide passage of that bill.
00:30On the back of allegations the union's been infiltrated by organised crime, the federal
00:35government's pushing new laws to force it into administration.
00:39It's now secured the coalition's support by agreeing to a minimum three year period of
00:44administration, additional parliamentary scrutiny, potential life bans for officials and the
00:51blocking of union money to political parties.

01:01and the industry is coming to an end.
01:04There'll be a greater transparency and for us that means that the business that you're
01:09doing should be a lot more predictable and for those that have been suffering bullying
01:13and intimidation, that's finished.
01:15For the Greens, the legislation's rushed and far reaching.
01:20Any time the coalition and Labor join together to do one of these kinds of attacks, I think
01:25warning bells should go off.
01:27The CFMEU has labelled this legislation shameful and unnecessary, saying allegations of criminality
01:34should be dealt with by a court rather than parliament.
01:37The government secured an early win with this deal, but the construction union is only just
01:42beginning its fight back.
