The federal opposition has signalled it may eventually back the government's immigration legislation after Labor unsuccessfully tried to ram it through parliament this week. The bill would give the government greater powers to compel people to cooperate with authorities trying to deport them, but senators took issue with Labor rushing it into parliament and expecting them to vote on it.
