How drivers can look out for QR code parking scams
Transcript
00:00Obviously QR stands for quick response but this actually could turns out it
00:04could be a quick route to actually losing money because people are going to
00:09pay for parking and many people don't have or some parking machines don't
00:13allow you to pay by cash anymore and some force you to pay by apps and some
00:18still allow you to pay by card. But of course people see a QR code they think
00:23well let's just scan that on my phone all of a sudden they're taken to a payment
00:27site they put in their details next the next thing they know they could be
00:31losing money for their bank account and doubly they may not actually pay for
00:35parking as they intended because they've been taken to a fake site so they could
00:38be hit twice. As a result drivers are being warned to avoid QR code payment
00:43systems altogether and instead pay by cash card or by phone. If you still
00:49choose to use the QR code payment scanner the RAC recommends to check the
00:53payment sites URL is definitely secure
