Unexplained Freefall Crash from 17000 Feet

A passenger plane crashed into a gated residential community in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state on August 9, 2024, killing all 61 people aboard and leaving a smoldering wreck, officials and the airline said.
Officials did not say if anyone was killed on the ground in the neighborhood where the plane landed in the city of Vinhedo, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of the metropolis of Sao Paulo. But witnesses at the scene said there were no victims among local residents.
The airline Voepass said that its plane, an ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop, was headed for Sao Paulo’s international airport Guarulhos with 57 passengers and 4 crew members aboard when it crashed in Vinhedo. It provided a flight manifest with passenger names, but not their nationalities. A prior statement had said there were 58 passengers.
“The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board flight 2283 died at the site,” Voepass said in a statement. “At this time, Voepass is prioritizing provision of unrestricted assistance to the victims’ families and effectively collaborating with authorities to determine the causes of the accident.”

00:00August 9th, 2024 flight 2283 of Brazil's local airline Vopalinhas was seen falling
00:07from the sky in a terrifying manner in different videos.
00:11This plane named AR72500 was a Brazilian passenger aircraft which was going from Cascabel to
00:17Sao Paulo but just a few minutes before landing.
00:21It met with an accident in which 57 passengers and 4 crew members lost their lives.
00:27This was not only the first dangerous crash in Brazil after 2011 but it is also considered
00:32fatal in the aviation history of Brazil.
00:36In the video, it can be seen that the plane is falling from the sky like a cut kite while
00:40doing free fall.
00:43After the release of the video, a wave of fear has spread among the people associated
00:47with the aviation industry because no matter which aircraft it is, it can never come down
00:52in free fall.
00:53The plane always comes down by gliding.
00:57So what was the reason?
00:59Authorities have launched an investigation into this but what happened a few minutes
01:03before the crash that could have caused this accident?
01:06Once again welcome to World Stories video.
01:09Vopalinhas is a local Brazilian airline that covers most domestic destinations.
01:15It has 8 AR72500 aircraft, one of which crashed on August 9th.
01:21The A72 has 2 turboprop engines and the number 72 in its name indicates its seating capacity.
01:29It was built in France and Italy by aircraft manufacturer ATR while Airbus also has a 50%
01:35stake in this company which shares its technology with ATR.
01:40The AR72500 of flight 2283 was 14 years old which will be replaced in 2022.
01:49It was bought by Lenhas from Indonesia's Pata Air Service.
01:53As I mentioned earlier, this airline mostly operates to local destinations.
01:58According to flight data records, it took off from Sao Paulo on August 9th, 2024 at
02:049.06am and its destination was Cascavel, 700 kilometers west.
02:10The trip went perfectly.
02:12It landed safely in Cascavel at 11.01am after 2 hours and 11 minutes.
02:18The flight was already late as per its scheduled time and it had to load passengers from Cascavel
02:23and go back to Sao Paulo.
02:25That is why after unloading, cleaning work was done quickly and exactly 41 minutes later
02:30it took off from Cascavel to go back to Sao Paulo.
02:34There were a total of 57 passengers and 4 crew members including the pilot.
02:3961 Sala Ambit Decompose
02:43The flight captain was 35 year old Danilo Santos.
02:46The first officer and 2 female cab crew were also present.
02:50What happened from takeoff to crash?
02:52What was visible on the radar screen you can also see all this.
02:56At 11.58am local time, flight 2283 took a left turn immediately after taking off from
03:02Cascavel and started maintaining an altitude of 177,000 feet which is also called cruising
03:09altitude at 12.2.
03:11After 23 minutes from takeoff, an altitude of 177,000 feet was maintained.
03:18If you go straight from Cascavel to Sao Paulo, there is a huge mountain range in between
03:23to avoid which all the planes either go over the Pacific Ocean in the east or pass over
03:27the plain land in the west.
03:30Flight 2283 also took a slight left turn to bypass this mountain range.
03:35According to the radar, the first one and a half hours passed in a completely normal
03:40manner in which the altitude of the aircraft was around 177,000 feet and the ground speed
03:46was 460 km per hour.
03:49At 1.7 minutes, flight 2283 took a sharp left turn and changed its direction towards the
03:55city of Campinas from where it was to make an approach and land at Sao Paulo airport.
04:01At 1.2 minutes, when it was present above the population in the south of Campinas, for
04:06the first time its ground speed decreased.
04:09It was earlier moving at a speed of 460 km per hour.
04:14Suddenly that speed became 159 km per hour.
04:18What was the reason for this is not yet known, but in the next minute, 1.2 minutes and 2
04:24seconds, the pilot maintained his ground speed back to 400 km per hour.
04:29By this time, the pilot there was no information of any kind to ATC.
04:34This was the point from where the plane was to be directed towards Sao Paulo airport.
04:39And we can see in the radar that the pilot started to turn the plane to the right.
04:44But only after 13 seconds, at 1.2 and 15 seconds.
04:49When he was turning, suddenly the ground speed decreased and along with it the vertical speed,
04:54that is.
04:55The speed at which the plane goes up or down starts decreasing.
04:59It was seen in the radar that the plane flying at 1,000 feet started coming down at the speed
05:04of 13,000 feet per minute.
05:07It also kept rotating and during this its ground speed, that is, the forward speed,
05:12reduced from 400 to 100 km per minute.
05:16This entire process took only 1 minute and 14 seconds.
05:21That is, in such a short time, the plane fell straight from 177,000 feet to the ground.
05:28During this, the plane fell 180 feet but the plane was coming down at a speed of 100 km
05:34per hour and the pilot probably did not have enough time to alert the ATC about his situation.
05:40The place where the flight's vertical speed started to decrease and the place where it
05:44crashed are only 1.3 km apart.
05:48The real reason behind this sudden fall will be known only after investigation, but according
05:53to the information available so far, information about the formation of ice at an altitude
05:59of 12,000 to 21,000 feet in the area where the crash occurred was given to all the pilots,
06:05which is also called segmental at meteorology information.
06:10If ice starts forming on the wings of the aircraft, it is a matter of great danger because
06:14the ice changes the aerodrome of the aircraft and the air which gives it lift, that lift
06:19is now reduced.
06:21Another problem caused by ice formation is that the wings, doors, ailerons, and elevators
06:26which are the moving parts of the aircraft get stuck between them and they cannot move,
06:30that is, despite the inputs given by the pilot.
06:34The aircraft will not be able to turn right or left.
06:38To avoid this, modern aircrafts often have an automatic heating system which does not
06:42allow ice to form on important parts.
06:45There are some aircrafts on which a special chemical is sprayed before flight which prevents
06:50ice from forming.
06:52ATR 72500 has different types of de-icing systems installed.
06:58Its wings have pneumatic de-icing boots which keep removing ice from the wings.
07:02Similarly, its de-icing systems are installed in the propellers, windshields, and engines
07:08as well.
07:09And despite all this, if there is a forecast of ice, the pilot tries to avoid that altitude
07:14or place where there is a possibility of ice formation.
07:18After the crash, the black box of flight LATU 83 has been recovered and it is expected that
07:23the real reason for this crash will be revealed in the coming months.
07:28But for now, it remains a mystery as to how the plane fell straight down from 177,000
07:33feet.
07:35I hope you all will like and share this video of world stories.
07:39Thank you very much for your loving comments.
07:42See you in the next great video!
