00:00You built this points lead, and you got an opportunity to enjoy it a little bit.
00:03So, go out there and do your thing.
00:05So far, today's been good.
00:07Indeed, a championship day.
00:09Look at the number 24, returning the 250 Supercross West champion.
00:13Broke his wrist at press day before this championship began.
00:17First race back for him.
00:19He's really here to get some seat time before the SMX playoffs that start in September.
00:24But he has had success at this track before.
00:26RJ's actually been riding Supercross this week to try to get a jump on SMX.
00:30Let's see how he does on that Rockstar this morning.
00:33We're ready to go.
00:34Levi Kitchen, who won last week, a little far outside for the way the start normally forms up at Bud's.
00:40What's that, about the 6th, 7th pick?
00:4247?
00:43Let's see how we roll.
00:45Bud's Creek, let's go!
00:51Wow, Deegan Wheelie's through on the inside.
00:53Oh, a bunch of riders collide!
00:55Big pileups!
00:56Multiple pileups!
00:58And I think Deegan survived.
01:00He has the early lead.
01:01One Kawasaki made it through.
01:02It's Kitchen.
01:03The others are down.
01:04It looks like 29.
01:06We got, oh, Ty Masterful was up there.
01:09And, hey, Deegan, this is why qualifying was so important.
01:13But a bummer for Ty.
01:15Three weeks in a row, or three races in a row, he's been down.
01:18But Levi Kitchen is in second right now.
01:20He was able to skaze past that.
01:22The race is on.
01:23But, hey, Deegan, championship day.
01:25Where do you want to be?
01:26I think Anstey was in that, and Mark Finnis.
01:29I didn't even see Anstey.
01:30I only saw his motorcycle.
01:31We saw a couple riders go flying.
01:33Julian Boumaire there in the Red Bull KTM Orange in third.
01:36And a good start behind us in fourth.
01:38But Deegan already starting to open it up.
01:40That's kind of what you've been talking about.
01:42You get the start here this first half of the first lap.
01:45You can make some serious A.
01:46Yeah, you're going to see these guys spread out.
01:48Especially from the leaders, where Hayden is and Levi,
01:50compared to the rest of the pack.
01:53It bottlenecks all the way up in there.
01:55So if you're out front, clean air, where these guys got,
01:57it's a great opportunity.
01:58Now, the track's going to be kind of a lot different
02:00than it was in practice.
02:01It was raining the last time he was out on the racetrack.
02:04As we're looking at Max down there,
02:07still trying to get back up.
02:08That's down in the first corner.
02:10But, yeah, as you can see, the track's
02:12going to be completely different.
02:13They did a little bit of work.
02:14So right now, it's prime time to get these guys going
02:17and try to make as many moves as you can.
02:19But you can see it's spreading out already.
02:21Absolutely.
02:22Hey, I'm just glad to see Anthony back on the bike.
02:23Because, man, he got launched outside of that first turn.
02:26Here is Kitchen.
02:29Evan Ferry of the Wildcat Racing Gas Gas rookie is fifth.
02:33And now we see Tom Bial, center of the screen.
02:36He's got some work to do.
02:37He's ninth.
02:38Yeah, I mean, Tom Bial's in the top 10.
02:40And he's probably already 10 seconds
02:42back than Hayden already.
02:44And that just shows you where to start.
02:45And everything bottles up.
02:46So it's not like he got a terrible start.
02:49But he's lost a lot of time.
02:51The way this track is.
02:52But Tom's been fighting all year.
02:54Got somebody on the Yamaha.
02:56And it's Jordan Smith, perhaps, who is sixth.
03:00I think he's down.
03:01That'll help Bial a little bit.
03:04Hey, you nailed it, though.
03:05He is.
03:05He's nine seconds down.
03:06You're almost 10.
03:07Almost.
03:07Almost got 10 seconds on the nose.
03:09Jordan Smith, he kind of messed it up a little bit.
03:11All right.
03:11All right.
03:12I know.
03:12But no, it's going to be hard for these guys to go.
03:15Hayden's throwing some whips out there.
03:16And the way he's been riding the last few weekends,
03:19you know he's got the confidence to continue.
03:21Tom Bial's been making some mistakes in first moto.
03:24So for him, his last three motos or four motos
03:27are going to have to be redemption to him almost.
03:30So there is Bial.
03:31He's got Cody Shock right behind him.
03:33And a good start for Hampshire, who is eighth.
03:36Hampshire was excited.
03:37They made some updates to the engine
03:39that he hasn't been able to race on yet since Supercross.
03:42So he was curious to see how the bike starts.
03:44There's Evan Ferry, son of Tim Ferry, your old teammate.
03:47Best race we've seen out of him in his young pro career.
03:49Yeah.
03:50First time we get to see him up here.
03:51It's good to get him.
03:52This is the experience that any rookie's young kids need.
03:55So Aaron, he's got a champion, two-time MXGP champion,
04:00MX2 GP champion behind him.
04:02So let's see if he can hold him off.
04:04And that's what a good start could do.
04:06Hey, if you're going to pick a track to get one,
04:08it's the right one to do it.
04:09This is the place.
04:10But as you can see how much these guys have spread it out
04:13already.
04:14And we're talking Aaron Ferry.
04:16He's in fifth.
04:17So.
04:18Yeah.
04:18And there's Anthony just getting back going a lap down
04:21on the 37.
04:23Little mistake from Evan Ferry.
04:25Here comes Vial.
04:26Yeah, it's going to funnel back in.
04:28Yeah, Tom didn't jump.
04:29And he wasn't really sure.
04:30Uh-oh, Dylan Schwartz, who had a problem last week at Unadilla.
04:34He's fighting to try to be top 20 in combined SMX points.
04:38Another rough one for him.
04:40Let's see if Tom can do something with Evan.
04:42It's one of the opportunities where
04:44you can pass if you can go out on the outside.
04:46If you can get around, things are going to funnel back in.
04:49There you go.
04:49Aaron makes it.
04:50Evan makes a mistake.
04:51Gets on the inside.
04:52Nice.
04:53AC.
04:54Yeah, guys.
04:55Something the track crew does when
04:57it's wet like it was this morning,
04:59you can't necessarily leave those wet lines from the morning
05:02to harden up.
05:03It's just not very practical.
05:05It can be pretty sketchy.
05:07So what they've done now is they've
05:09smoothed out a lot of the track, which
05:11is going to make it hard for guys like Vial
05:13to slice through the pack and make up time.
05:17Yeah, so a little less separation,
05:19a little less technical.
05:20What happens there when you take some of those ruts out?
05:23Well, it does.
05:24As Adam said, it does make it a little bit harder
05:26for the guys to make up time.
05:27Just because the main line is where everybody's riding at.
05:30It's the dry line.
05:31So going on the outside, it might be smoother.
05:34But it's deep.
05:35And so especially on these 250s, you lose all the horsepower.
05:38And you can see RJ has been close the last quarter
05:42of a lap around Evan.
05:43But the way this track works out,
05:45it just closes you off.
05:46So particularly this racetrack and how it is,
05:48it's going to be hard for these guys
05:49to get in unless somebody makes a mistake.
05:51But RJ's doing what RJ does.
05:53He's going to continue to fight.
05:55Well, I'm glad you brought that up.
05:56RJ said, look, I have only done one 30-minute moto.
05:58He's like, I really have to ride within myself today
06:01and just try to control the pace.
06:02And I said, come on, man.
06:04You're RJ Hampshire.
06:05And he's like, I know.
06:06I know that's not normally my thing.
06:08Looks like Anstey has pulled out of this race
06:10after that big first-turn crash.
06:13Yeah.
06:14Yeah, it's going to be hard for RJ just the way he rides.
06:17But I'm sure he probably is riding it the way he wants
06:21until he gets out here and he continues to get roosted.
06:23Then he's going to want to try to get aggressive.
06:25But with the track being a little bit smoother
06:27and maybe deeper, this kind of reminds me of the way RJ is.
06:31It's kind of a sloppy racetrack.
06:33Got to be kind of aggressive, hanging out
06:35as he makes the pass on the inside of Evan.
06:38No way.
06:39Look at Evan.
06:40Evan Ferry fighting back against Hampshire.
06:43Just like his old man, Timmy.
06:44Yeah, there he is.
06:46And looks like Hampshire, who, by the way, grew up with Evan.
06:49Hampshire, longtime riding student with Timmy Ferry
06:52as his coach.
06:54Probably was back when Evan was on mini-cycles.
06:57Makes the move on him.
06:58That's going to make RJ feel old.
07:00Yeah.
07:01Well, we won't say anything.
07:02We won't say that.
07:03It's a baseball pitch.
07:04No, we didn't crank it up.
07:06We're going to talk about that.
07:08So Hampshire makes the move.
07:10Here's the motorsport.com whole shot replay.
07:12Deegan escapes on the inside.
07:14Yeah, well, Hayden gets up on that dry stuff.
07:16And this corner actually starts going back
07:18to the right a little bit.
07:19And it looks like they get pinched off.
07:22And when you go into a left-handed corner
07:24and guys are going right, it never ends well in this corner.
07:27This racetrack is notorious for having these issues.
07:30But it was Hayden Deegan.
07:32He didn't even get the best jump.
07:34But you could see him up there clear.
07:37And then now you've got Masterpool, Anstey.
07:40They all pinch each other off.
07:44Wow.
07:45There's the big hit.
07:46That was a big one.
07:47That was Anstey trying to figure out who else that
07:49was way on the outside.
07:52Might have been Bennett.
07:54Saw KTM go flying there.
07:56Back to the leader, Deegan.
07:57He has opened it up five-plus seconds over Kitchen.
08:01Yeah, you know, just like last weekend,
08:03Hayden's probably enjoying this, having a good time,
08:06just enjoying this racetrack.
08:08Because, I mean, it's tricky, but it's not
08:09one of those dangerous racetracks.
08:12And the way Hayden rides, how aggressive
08:14he is on a motorcycle, the way the track is laid out
08:16is actually going to work well for him.
08:18It's going to suit his riding style.
08:19Looks like he's having a good time.
08:22Almost six seconds, so I'm sure he's having a good time.
08:24Oh, yeah.
08:28Just like to listen to him at times.
08:30He's so wide open.
08:33And here's the gap.
08:34Back to Kitchen.
08:37There it is.
08:38Six and a half now.
08:41Yeah, Levi's going to be in a tough situation in a minute
08:44because Hayden's gotten far enough away from him
08:47that he doesn't have that rabbit in front of him.
08:49But then he has the rookie and Beaumier and Chance Hyman
08:53coming up behind him.
08:54So he's got to keep racing forward if he can.
08:56Otherwise, these guys are going to close in real quick on him.
08:59Yeah, could have a battle brewing there
09:00to go back to Deegan.
09:03Pulling away.
09:04Oh, yeah.
09:05He's having fun, no doubt.
09:06Hey, Super Motocross Beyond the Gate.
09:08That's an exclusive behind-the-scenes series.
09:11Continues through all 31 SMX events this year,
09:13giving fans an inside look into this Monster Energy Yamaha
09:17Star Racing team that Hayden Deegan rides for.
09:20New episodes every Friday on the Yamaha Motor USA channel.
09:24Give you a behind-the-scenes look at Hayden's team.
09:27And who knows?
09:28Could be a championship episode coming up.
09:31Don't forget Eli Tomac rides for that team as well.
09:34He'll be up in the next hour.
09:35His return to motocross.
09:37Now, if you're watching Hayden, he
09:40looks like he's pretty aggressive for a guy who's
09:42going to hopefully wrap up the championship today.
09:45But by the way he's riding, he's actually keeping himself loose.
09:48Like being almost really loud on the bike,
09:51over revving it, moving around, whipping it.
09:53Like he's basically keeping himself
09:55from thinking about this championship.
09:57And by him riding that way, keeps him super loose, has fun.
10:00And he's just continuing to pull away from these guys.
10:02So Hayden's doing a great job as we're
10:05watching the rookie trying to hold off the sophomore, right?
10:09And Chance Hymus.
10:11But these guys are 10 seconds back than Hayden
10:15from the lead right now.
10:16Boomer, I think, has been underrated as a rookie this year.
10:18He's been top 10 in almost all the motos.
10:20Just this time after a big concussion, actually,
10:22suffered in Southwick, missed a race.
10:24And that was it.
10:25Otherwise, he's been right around that 7.89 spot,
10:27which is really good how deep this class is.
10:30Now we're really getting to see it, running third.
10:32Yeah, you're absolutely right.
10:33And we talked a few times on how deep this class is,
10:36getting a 10th place, 10th to 15th.
10:39Those guys are riding really good.
10:40And it's showing right now.
10:42Julian's up here in third place, hanging
10:45with your last week's winner.
10:47Levi Kitchen right in front of him.
10:48Chance Hymus was pulling away from these guys.
10:50So it's not like he's struggling.
10:53He's up here.
10:54And that's the way he's been riding all year long.
10:56Just that's what a start does for you.
10:58Yeah, well, Hymus seeing behind Boomer
11:02trying to make the move.
11:03What a difference a week can make.
11:04Last week, he blew past about five,
11:07six riders in the first lap, got the lead, was pulling away.
11:10And then it ended like this.
11:12Yeah, tough.
11:13I mean, this is at the point where the hardest
11:15part of the race was done.
11:16He got past all those guys.
11:17And then they stuck with him.
11:18And then now at this point, he had about eight seconds.
11:21But yeah, just going down the hill, simple.
11:23Not even really a mistake.
11:24It was Unadilla happened, got kicked out.
11:27And it looked really scary for a while.
11:29But it was able to get up and ride off.
11:31And then try to come back to second motor,
11:33which he rode a couple laps, but retired.
11:35Yeah, he's a little banged up.
11:37Biggest thing is he burned his arm.
11:39The exhaust pipe landed right on his arm in that crash.
11:43We asked him yesterday about his health.
11:47Honestly, I just took it off Monday, Tuesday.
11:49Rode Wednesday.
11:50Felt good.
11:51But yeah, definitely blessed to be walking away from that one.
11:54That was a scary one.
11:56I haven't had a big one in a while.
11:57So yeah, fast section and just kind of happened out of nowhere.
12:01So it sucked.
12:02I had, you know, like five or so laps to go.
12:05So very unfortunate.
12:06But everyone knows that's how that track is
12:08and how racing goes sometimes.
12:10But yeah, lucky to be here.
12:12And I just got a burn on my arm.
12:13And yeah, should be good this weekend.
12:16Yeah, good.
12:17It was scary to see him.
12:18And you could see the smoke coming off the bike.
12:20But when I mentioned earlier about Hayden riding,
12:23he was riding over Evan, the motorcycle.
12:25Whoa, look at that.
12:26Sorry to cut you off.
12:27But that's exactly what Jaimez just did.
12:29And he triples James, taking over third place.
12:32Yeah, I wasn't sure if Julian went outside.
12:34Maybe he got stuck in the outside
12:36because it didn't look like Chance was really
12:38trying to go in and make the pass.
12:40Maybe something happened to him.
12:41But what I was saying was with Hayden,
12:43as you're watching Chance and Levi and all these guys,
12:47if you look at their riding position,
12:49like the way they're riding the motorcycle,
12:51they're super smooth.
12:52But then you watch Hayden really hanging the thing out.
12:55You know, bike's all over revving loud.
12:58When I said this track fits Hayden,
13:00you can get away with it because of the soil
13:02and how sticky it is.
13:03It's allowing Hayden to actually be the best version of himself.
13:06Where riding like Chance and Levi, being very consistent,
13:10this track doesn't necessarily reward that.
13:12So you can see that's where that gap is coming from.
13:15Because it's not like they're riding bad.
13:17But Hayden, that aggressive being attacking the racetrack,
13:20is allowing him to be out 11 seconds so far.
13:22And it's seriously because the weight of track
13:25has been phased out.
13:26You see it in the lap times.
13:27Yep.
13:28Look at that.
13:28Deegan over a second quicker lap than anyone else
13:31was the best time.
13:32But on the same token, last week at Unadilla,
13:34does that favor more the Kitchen and Hyman style?
13:37Yes.
13:37And that was my whole point.
13:38So last weekend would reward a track
13:41if you rode very smooth, being consistent, being patient,
13:44jumping over the bumps like Chance Hyman,
13:46like Levi Kitchen.
13:47And Hayden Deegan's really good at all this stuff
13:49as we're watching Tom close down on Julian.
13:53Hayden's good.
13:54He's good on all that.
13:55But it eliminates to be able to make up that much time here
13:58compared to where last weekend, those guys
14:00had a better opportunity to do it
14:02because of their riding style or being aggressive here.
14:04Gets you out to 11 second lead, 13 seconds over
14:07third place in a few laps.
14:08Wow.
14:09Well, as we watch these KTM teammates,
14:11Vial and Bumair battle.
14:12Remember, Deegan was doing this at Bud's Creek a year ago.
14:15Got out to the early lead, was gone.
14:17And then there was a red flag restart.
14:19And then he actually tagged Vial on the first turn of that
14:22and went down.
14:23So the results won't show you how well he rode here
14:25a year ago.
14:26He's got a little vengeance on the mind
14:28as we watch the relative veteran, Vial.
14:31Oh, what happened there?
14:32Yeah, looks like he got cross ruts.
14:33So I'm wondering, is that what happened to Julian
14:35when he went outside the screen when he got
14:38passed by Chance on there?
14:40Because Tom was close.
14:41Looks like he gets cross rutted.
14:43And then since they pushed all that mud off to the side,
14:45they slam into it.
14:46It slows the bike down.
14:47And you just lose a lot of time, as we just saw.
14:50Yeah.
14:50Got to go back to work to bridge it to his teammate.
14:53Hampshire, we hear, has gone down.
14:55He's no longer in the top 10.
14:57Joey Savace and Jalik Swole, the try-up teammates,
15:00are sixth and seventh now.
15:01And this track view, SMX track view,
15:04something we started showing last week,
15:06putting some GPS on the transponders
15:08of some of the bikes.
15:09Got long-term goals maybe for the whole field
15:13eventually to do this.
15:14Right now, we're kind of in beta mode, I would call it.
15:17But you can see some of the data we get.
15:19And you see, 48, that's Hymus closing on Kitchen
15:23as Deacon, see how big his lead is.
15:26Yeah.
15:27Right above, like Levi, as I mentioned a couple laps ago,
15:30he was going to be stuck in an awkward spot
15:32because he doesn't have anybody to chase because he
15:34can't see Hayden.
15:35So you're naturally going to start riding behind you.
15:37And I think that's what's happening.
15:39Chance Hymus is starting to close up on him.
15:41But Levi, he's been here, done that.
15:44And as I say, that chance must have made a mistake
15:46because Levi's got a pretty good gap over him right now.
15:49Yep.
15:49And you can see that on the SMX track view
15:51as we go back to Kitchen in second.
15:58Yeah, he's in no man's land right now.
16:00No one behind, no one ahead.
16:03Yeah.
16:04You can hear these bikes when they
16:05hit some of these corners.
16:06It's almost like they got to stay right
16:08on the bottom of those berms.
16:09Because otherwise, the RPM drops off quite a bit
16:12when it does that.
16:13You lose all that time.
16:14And then it just affects you down the next 30 way.
16:17But Levi looks pretty good.
16:18Looks like he's starting to calm down.
16:20OK, you say bottom of the berm.
16:21Is that where the traction is?
16:22Is that the angle of the rut?
16:23What are you looking for there?
16:24So basically, being at the bottom of the berm,
16:26that's where the corner is probably the most packed up.
16:29OK.
16:30And it's closer to the hard base on there.
16:32So you get too far up in that top part
16:34with all this mud on there, you just lose all that momentum.
16:37And especially in the 250 class, it's a lot.
16:39All right, let's send it down to Jason Thomas.
16:42Well, Hayden Deegan, you see him starting to pull away.
16:44Got the start.
16:45But you see how aggressive he's being.
16:47And it's a pretty big departure from what we saw
16:49last week in the second moto.
16:50And I think a lot of that is style.
16:52And it's also this racetrack versus a much more
16:55technical Unadilla.
16:57Budge Creek rewards aggression in a rider like Hayden Deegan.
17:00That's what he specializes in.
17:01He wants to be heavy handed with the throttle.
17:03And this track will allow him to do exactly that.
17:06And I think you're seeing the results come from that
17:08here in that first moto.
17:12Yeah, and typically with someone like Hayden Deegan,
17:15somebody young, 17, 18 years old,
17:17like when I first turned pro, I remember
17:19I had one way of riding that was fast.
17:22And it took me a while to learn how
17:24to get the best out of myself on each different condition.
17:28And I think that's what makes Hayden so impressive
17:31is he does have that aggressive all out style.
17:34But you go to a track like Unadilla,
17:37you go to a track like High Point,
17:39he's able to get the best out of himself
17:41on a bunch of different conditions, which
17:44I think that separates him from the other guys.
17:47Yeah, thanks, Adam.
17:48And the stats show that.
17:50It's really the consistency.
17:51Deegan has eight moto wins this year.
17:53That's a lot.
17:54That's the most.
17:55But it's not dominant.
17:56What really stands out is he's been in the top five
17:59in all but one moto.
18:01And that was the sixth.
18:02And on the podium in all but two motos.
18:04Been pretty good everywhere.
18:05No, Hayden's been pretty good all year long
18:08and everywhere as we just at the bottom.
18:11It's like Tom was able to get around the rookie and Julian.
18:14But yeah, as we were talking about Hayden's riding style
18:17and coming for rookies, it being aggressive
18:20and the way Hayden rides really hard on the throttle.
18:23Yeah, he's very good at other tracks at Unadilla.
18:25He was able to win a moto at High Point.
18:27He's able to win motos.
18:28But coming here, it's like he doesn't
18:30have to think about doing anything.
18:32This is how he naturally rides.
18:34This is how he's always been.
18:35So I think that's why he comes here
18:37and that gap between him and Levi is a lot bigger
18:40because Hayden's more comfortable of what
18:42he's naturally how he rides a motorcycle.
18:44It's better here.
18:45And then you can see Levi finished a second behind him
18:48last weekend in the first moto.
18:50He's 16 seconds and he started right behind him in this moto.
18:53Just a difference on track.
18:54Oh, yeah.
18:55This might be the danger zone of danger zones
18:59considering how fast he was at the track last year
19:02and how fast he is right now.
19:03This is a big lead.
19:05And when you look at his points lead,
19:07having 73 points as it sits right now,
19:09you would think this is the dominance
19:11that you would expect to see to have that big points
19:15lead compared to where you see in the 450 class.
19:17It's a little bit closer.
19:18But it just shows you certain tracks favor certain riders
19:21and also how good Hayden's been everywhere
19:24and consistent throughout the year.
19:26And he's getting close to this thing.
19:27See that line he had at the very top of the hill?
19:30That little low spot.
19:31I wasn't even going to say it.
19:33I don't want to bring it up.
19:34OK.
19:36Hey, you got to be smart sometimes.
19:39I think that's within bounds enough.
19:41I would say about the rest of the field.
19:43Like, see, that's how he's pulling away.
19:45He's borderline on the track.
19:47Yeah, borderline, borderline.
19:48Exactly.
19:49He's probably not the only one.
19:50A lead up to 17 and a half seconds.
19:54Oh, we're going to show it to you.
19:56Well, I really called it out now.
19:57Watch the left side.
19:58Take it, Jay.
19:59Oh, OK.
20:00I'll be the analyst.
20:01When the hill's maybe a foot less steep.
20:05Yeah.
20:06There you go.
20:07He's getting there.
20:08A little faster.
20:09It's less steep.
20:10Probably gives him a better angle in the corner.
20:11But hey, there's no markers there.
20:12They got knocked over from people running over them.
20:14But yeah, Hayden's just doing his thing.
20:17Even if you docked him, it ain't going to make no difference.
20:20He'll pull away.
20:21But the kid's having a good time.
20:22And you can see this track's still pretty one-lined.
20:25So being out front, one good line out here,
20:28you might as well be out front leading that.
20:30His teammate battle.
20:31These are Deegan's teammates.
20:32He's got Romano and Smith on the 31.
20:35Smith had a good start, but then crashed about halfway
20:38through the first lap.
20:39He is not giving up on it.
20:41And it gives us a chance to have a Thor team check-in.
20:44Romano, 10th.
20:46Smith, 11th.
20:47Benek, 16th.
20:48And Anstey out because of that first turn crash.
20:51And Deegan leading.
20:52So it's the Thor-clad Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing
20:56riders.
20:57Romano's still kind of in a rebuild
20:59after losing almost two years from racing due to injuries,
21:03ACL and shoulder.
21:05And I talked to him last week.
21:06He said he's still talking to the star team.
21:08His deal is up.
21:09Hoping to come back next year.
21:11They still believe in him.
21:12He believes.
21:13And it's going to take time.
21:15Oh, is that Ferry?
21:16They're making a move on.
21:18Something went wrong for Ferry.
21:19Yeah, is that Evan?
21:21Yeah, but not on the lead lap.
21:23He's 37.
21:24He's a lap down.
21:25Yeah, back to Nick.
21:28Yeah, the kid has talent.
21:30For sure, he's doing the right thing.
21:32Just slowly build because he's had a lot of injuries
21:34and setbacks.
21:35So the best thing for him to be out here,
21:37just logging these laps.
21:38And he's getting better every single weekend.
21:40But when you talk about the track and the lines
21:42and how difficult it is once you get out that main line,
21:45we saw how close Jordan was a few corners back.
21:47He went on the outside trying something different,
21:50get stuck in the soft stuff, and then
21:52look how much time he loses.
21:54It's hard for these guys to make passes.
21:56And Tom's up.
21:57They're following.
21:58And now we've found Hempshire, who's back up to ninth.
22:01Marchbanks on the 26th, who came back to the pro circuit
22:05team last weekend.
22:07He had to stop in the pits, I believe, for goggles.
22:10Not quite sure.
22:11So he's pretty far back.
22:13He's 18th.
22:14But the good news is Schwartz with back-to-back bad motos.
22:18Nice pass.
22:19Yeah.
22:20Inside.
22:21It's on Lux Turner on the AEO KTM.
22:23The good news is that Marchbanks actually now
22:25has a huge lead over Schwartz in points for 20th.
22:28And that'll lock him into the motos for the SMX playoffs.
22:30So for Schwartz, who's been riding with a wrist injury
22:33all summer and starting to come undone at the wrong time,
22:36here's the pit stop.
22:37Well, we're going to know for sure.
22:39And it's goggles.
22:40Yeah, it's good goggles.
22:41Yep.
22:42Make sure you get all the dirt out of it.
22:45I mean, it just shows you how important vision is.
22:47So take that time.
22:49Get out there.
22:50But Garrett Frost really good as we're watching him.
22:53AC?
22:55Yeah, guys.
22:56Just something on Garrett Marchbanks.
22:58He was my teammate back in 2019.
23:00And as a rookie, a young kid, 17-year-old kid.
23:03And there were some times in practice
23:06where it would be crazy speed.
23:09Like, he's shown me those flashes that say
23:12he could be a consistent winner.
23:14But obviously, left PC, went to Club MX,
23:17and kind of viewed like his career was
23:19on the decline a little bit.
23:20But now with this opportunity with Pro Circuit,
23:23I really think he has a chance to be special.
23:26So we'll see what he does the rest of the year.
23:30Well, and remember with Garrett Marchbanks as well,
23:32his last time we really saw success,
23:35he won the Daytona Supercross in 2020,
23:37literally the last round before we
23:40had to completely change the system
23:42for the series that season.
23:43We've seen him be that guy before.
23:45And I think last week was just a snapshot
23:47of what he can be again.
23:48So yes, he's gone through a lot of change,
23:51went to the 450 class and come back.
23:53But as to AC's point, the potential is definitely there.
23:56Yeah.
23:575-5 in the Moto's fourth overall last week
24:00in his return to this team.
24:02And he is in 17th now after the pit stop.
24:06Back to the battle for third.
24:07Bial is trying to catch Jaimes.
24:10And maybe even could make a run at Kitchen here.
24:14Yeah.
24:15Levi's a couple of seconds in front.
24:17And good to see Tom up.
24:19He's run really good.
24:20But that time that he lost to these guys,
24:22he's trying to make it up.
24:23And the problem is not going to be one.
24:25These guys are running really good.
24:27So it's going to be hard to catch them.
24:28But once he catches them, that's where the real challenge
24:32becomes, being able to get around them with this,
24:34the way the layout is, and how difficult
24:36one line of this racetrack is.
24:37And that track is showing you how close the battle is
24:40second and fifth.
24:41And then the lead for the 38.
24:44So Bial, he proved your point.
24:46He said, you know, if you don't get a start on this track,
24:48you're going to get further back the gap
24:51than at most of the tracks.
24:52And that's what Bial is working against right now.
24:55Yeah.
24:56I mean, he's working against.
24:57And I would say, I mean, he's running the same lap times
24:59as Hayden is out front right now.
25:01They're all in the 203s.
25:02In fact, Chance Jaimes was the only one in 202.
25:06But he's 25 seconds back.
25:08And all that time was lost in the first two laps
25:11as he makes a small mistake trying to get on the outside,
25:14gets a little cross-rutted.
25:16And now he's going to have to make up all the time
25:18that he just lost again.
25:20Now what's on the line here is Kitchen
25:23has to finish second to stave off Deegan
25:26clinching the title in Moto 1.
25:28So he has to dig, because Jaimes and Bial are close.
25:31If Kitchen drifts back to third and Deegan wins the Moto,
25:34then Deegan wins the title right now.
25:37So I think, did I just see Kitchen or no?
25:42I think I just saw Kitchen.
25:43Yeah, no.
25:44It's still on there.
25:45I think we have an issue with the timing of scoring.
25:47OK, we'll see in a second.
25:48OK, there is two lap riders.
25:50And on the right side, there goes Jaimes.
25:53No, Jaimes is ahead of Kitchen.
25:55So that could be a championship level pass right there.
25:59Great pass.
26:00And I wonder, did Levi get caught up
26:03in behind those lappers?
26:04I want to imagine that, Jay.
26:05I was telling you not.
26:06But good drive for Chance Jaimes.
26:08And this is that confidence that I was saying
26:10is kind of brewing up.
26:11Once he's able to do this, before Chance,
26:14he was either out front and been able to win the race.
26:17But we didn't see this.
26:18They ought to come through the pack
26:19and just show that consistent speed in doing it.
26:22Although he's 23 seconds behind Hayden,
26:25this is what we're seeing from a guy who's
26:27starting to get that confidence.
26:28And he looks good.
26:29He does.
26:30So now Kitchen has to get him back.
26:32Now look, it's not really nail biter.
26:34Oh, now Viallo's gone by Kitchen as well.
26:36So things are coming unraveled for the 47.
26:39I was going to say, this isn't a nail-biting championship
26:41scenario.
26:42There's still three more Motos in this series after this.
26:45But I'm sure if you're digging, you'd
26:47love to get this thing done in Moto 1.
26:49And now he's in position to do so.
26:51Yeah, he's in a great position.
26:52And the way how much fun Hayden's having it,
26:56biggest lead of the year, the most dominating race
26:59of the year on championship day.
27:01I mean, why not?
27:03This would be a perfect opportunity to go out there
27:05and wrap this thing up.
27:06And it looks like he is if everything stays the same.
27:08Yeah, you're right.
27:09Tom Viallo got around Levi.
27:10I wonder if something happened with Levi,
27:12whether it's with the motorcycle or him physically.
27:15Normally not like Levi to drop off that quickly.
27:18Oh, yeah.
27:19That was a bad lap or two out of nowhere.
27:21Did not see that coming.
27:22So Viallo's going to keep digging
27:25to try to get to Jimenez.
27:26And it's getting worse we hear for Kitchen.
27:29Look at the gap now.
27:33It's a mechanics area.
27:34He does not glance over.
27:35Yeah, he doesn't glance over.
27:37So it doesn't look like it's an injury.
27:41Maybe it's just something happened.
27:43Or maybe he's feeling it.
27:47He starts it down a little bit.
27:49Yeah.
27:51Yeah, you see that, how he landed off that jump
27:53and sat back.
27:54Almost either he's really tired or maybe he
27:57injured himself a little bit.
27:58That's the only way a rider would be doing that.
28:00So not trying to speculate.
28:02But there's definitely something's wrong.
28:04Seeing the body language a little bit.
28:06A little different.
28:07Yeah, you can see him really laboring.
28:09And even when he lands off the jump,
28:10his body's starting to collapse.
28:12So he's really not trying to fight going forward.
28:16Boomer would be the next in line in fifth.
28:19Stavachi, Swole, Brown, Hampshire, Jordan, Smith next.
28:23Then it's Romano and Masterpool down to the first turn.
28:27Three motos, as you mentioned, James in a row
28:29where Masterpool has gone down early.
28:31He is in 12th.
28:35And this will allow Deegan to wrap the title
28:38if it ends this way.
28:40The championship celebration, the actual presentation
28:42of the number one plate, would come at the end of moto two.
28:45But we can certainly acknowledge it and talk
28:47to Deegan about it at the end of this moto
28:49if it ends this way.
28:51As we speculate on the 47, try to figure out what
28:54could possibly have happened here.
28:57And replay here.
29:01Yeah.
29:02So we're watching.
29:03This is right before the finish line.
29:05Got these guys right up in here.
29:08As we have to pack, they got a pack of riders
29:13with lap riders.
29:14And yeah, that's Chance who got around Levi
29:18right before the finish line.
29:19So actually, Levi didn't even get caught up
29:21by the lap riders.
29:22He just goes on the outside.
29:23And you just notice with him sitting down,
29:25something's not right.
29:26He lands off there and sits down.
29:27And Levi's the type of rider who stands up quite a bit.
29:30So I can tell a difference.
29:32Oh, I mean, the lap time, he just went a 2.09.
29:36Deegan went 2.06.
29:37Hymus, 2.05.
29:38Vial, 2.04.
29:39Boomer, 2.06.
29:40So kitchen way off the pace suddenly, three, four seconds.
29:44Yeah, to me, if it was the bike, normally riders,
29:48if we want to, we love blaming the team.
29:50So if it was the bike, I think there would be a wave.
29:53But the fact is, there's no wave.
29:55There's something probably going on with him personally.
29:57Oh, Vial's going after Hymus now.
30:00Yeah, Tom's been running a good pace.
30:02It just lost all the time in the beginning.
30:04So he's been doing all this work.
30:06But now he really gets messed up with the lap rider.
30:08And you can see Chance pulls away from him.
30:11So he's going to have two laps after this lap
30:14to try to catch him.
30:16It seems like, James, you mentioned how it's one line
30:19and hard to pass.
30:20But also, it seems like one mistake,
30:22one caught in a lap rider, one error in a run,
30:24seems to also stretch the gap out extra long.
30:28Yeah, and it really depends on where
30:30you catch the lap riders at.
30:32So if you get caught right here in this section,
30:34you get stuck behind someone that's
30:36not running the pace you are.
30:37You've got to follow them.
30:38And you see how slow this corner is.
30:40So you've got these lap riders that are
30:43battling for their own position.
30:45You get stuck behind them, you lose that time.
30:47But you also see Tom Gaines that time,
30:49being able to be free.
30:51So I think Tom's faster than Chance.
30:53But it's going to be dependent on where he catches him at.
30:56And hopefully, he gets in the spot
30:58where he can make that pass without getting
31:00stuck in one of these berms and try to get around them.
31:03And he's going to be able to catch up.
31:05He's going to be able to catch up.
31:07He's going to be able to catch up.
31:09He's going to be able to catch up.
31:12And Vielle has about two laps to do it.
31:14It'll be two laps to go next time around.
31:19And it's difficult for these guys,
31:21with the track being the way it is,
31:22and since it's still a little wet.
31:24You really can't stay behind somebody,
31:26because you're going to run out of tear-offs.
31:28So you're getting that roost on you, and it's packing.
31:30So the guys almost have to lay back,
31:32and hopefully just kind of catch them off guard.
31:35We're getting the two-lap board from Hayden Deegan.
31:37Yep, it's starting to click off.
31:39The moments, the laps.
31:41As he gets closer to a title,
31:43Kitchen in fourth would be enough for him to cinch it,
31:46go over a 75-point lead.
31:51And in complete control,
31:52and does also have the fastest lap of the moto.
31:56Yeah, Hayden didn't want to leave any question
31:58whether he was the best guy.
32:00He didn't want to leave no question
32:01whether he was the fastest guy.
32:03Well, I ain't got no questions, Hayden.
32:05When you're going to answer it,
32:06I think you let it be known out here.
32:08Got it.
32:09Lap and a half.
32:10Wrap up your first championship, AC.
32:13James and Weege,
32:14I'm already looking forward to this podium speech.
32:16I'm not going to lie.
32:18Well, we'll give you two chances, this moto,
32:20and then we'll hand out the number one plate
32:22and the second.
32:23It'd be hard to imagine if Deegan
32:24doesn't say something spicy.
32:26Yeah, I mean, middle name, Hayden Cajun Deegan.
32:30Oh, wait, there's some spice.
32:32He goes down.
32:33Well, kids at home,
32:34that's why you keep riding to the finish right there.
32:37That's what's nice about having a big old gap
32:39on second place.
32:41He might have lost like three seconds.
32:43Yeah.
32:44They won't even know that happened.
32:46All right.
32:47He's got to go back to work on Lux Turner
32:48and a couple of these other riders.
32:50Adam, what did you see there?
32:52Guys, I just wanted to apologize.
32:54As soon as I said I was looking forward
32:55to the podium speech,
32:56it looked like Hayden stalled it right there.
32:59So I'm sorry to the Deegan camp.
33:01Hey, that's all right.
33:02That means Adam's officially part of the broadcast.
33:03You got the announcer's curse in there, baby.
33:05It just officially happened.
33:07The announcer's curse.
33:08But we call him, you know, Cajun for no reason.
33:10He's got to keep everything spicy.
33:12So just fell over.
33:13Just keep us on his toes.
33:15Down to 12 seconds.
33:17It was a 20-some.
33:19Pressure's on now.
33:21He's a couple of corners away
33:23from the white flag coming out.
33:25And to be honest,
33:29the way Deegan rode as a rookie last year,
33:31held the point lead at one point,
33:33was already consistent there.
33:34I wouldn't say this is a surprise by any measure.
33:38We knew coming in, he'd be tough.
33:40You know, 100%,
33:42but what his mechanic put on the pit board
33:44was huge right there.
33:46Because as a racer,
33:47when you got 30 seconds or whatever,
33:49when you fall over,
33:50it feels like you get up
33:51and you've been sitting there for a minute.
33:53So in Hayden's mind,
33:54I'm sure he probably felt like,
33:55man, how close are these guys are here?
33:57So his mechanic put in plus 12,
33:59let him know right there.
34:00Now he can calm back down.
34:01It's actually a smart move by his mechanic
34:03to put that on a pit board
34:04instead of waiting for Hayden to figure out himself.
34:07Yeah, good job there.
34:08Brent Duffy, the mechanic,
34:10long time wrench in these pits,
34:11really has found a good fit with Deegan.
34:15Duff life, call him,
34:16always worked with Justin Brayton for a long time.
34:20And he has really gelled with the Deegans.
34:23Duff actually broke his leg in the off season,
34:26riding himself.
34:27And the Deegans made sure,
34:28one way or another,
34:29to get him to the first Supercross of the year.
34:31They don't want to race without him.
34:33And this whole program,
34:34it has all come together here
34:36for both Deegan and his team.
34:39Yes, it has.
34:40It's really impressive.
34:42And just the way he's been doing it all year long,
34:45I mean, clearly this is Hayden Deegan
34:47at his best right here.
34:49When he's on, this is what you see.
34:51And he's been talking it, backing it up,
34:54got a whole program.
34:56And there's a lot of pressure on this kid
34:57to come in here and fulfill what he did.
34:59And we saw what happened.
35:00His first race, when he came out a couple years ago,
35:04back in Ironman,
35:05and having to go through what he did last year.
35:07But slowly, each race, he's been building.
35:10He's been building the confidence,
35:12as hopefully these other guys get.
35:14This is what happens.
35:15And man, I'm so happy and proud for this kid
35:18to be able to do it.
35:19Oh, is that Jaimes?
35:20Yeah, I think it's Jaimes.
35:21He was just in front of Vial, who had caught him.
35:24And now Jaimes, on the last lap, has gone down.
35:26Should put Vial to second.
35:29And it might move Levi up to third again.
35:33I don't think that will affect the title.
35:35I think Kitchin would have to finish second.
35:38So it's not going to change for Hayden Deegan.
35:41Well, a lot of times, titles, we say it's a long journey.
35:45Not really.
35:46Second year as a pro.
35:47Already the SMX champ from last year.
35:49But delivering on all the hype he had built
35:52before he turned pro, Hayden Deegan wins the moto.
35:55And that should be enough.
35:58To clinch the championship.
36:03We'll wait until it's official when they come across.
36:05We're watching Savace and Swole.
36:08They were in a battle the whole way to triumph teammates.
36:13And they're still battling in this final section.
36:16There goes Boumer.
36:18And Jaimes lost a ton of ground.
36:22Yeah.
36:24There he is.
36:25Man, he's out of the top five.
36:27So lots of shakeups in that moto.
36:31And that's why I wanted to wait until everyone came across
36:33to make sure Kitchin did take third.
36:35I was like, I want 30 seconds.
36:36And then I went down.
36:40But that's the way to do it.
