00:00The first chapter of Kevin Costner's Horizon saga is headed to streaming sooner than you might think.
00:05Horizon, an American Saga Chapter 1, will hit the streaming service Max on August 23rd. The
00:10film was released in theaters back in June, but disappointed at the box office, opening to just
00:15$11 million. The release of Horizon Chapter 2 was then put on hold in order to give audiences the
00:21opportunity to discover the first installment on premium VOD and Max. Chapter 2 was previously
00:26supposed to hit theaters on August 16th before being pulled from the calendar.
00:30You and I are standing guard in one of the last great open spaces.
00:35That looks like a promising place. A place I might be able to see myself.
00:40Chapter 1 debuted on premium VOD July 16th while it remained in theaters,
00:44but at that time, a Max date had not been announced. The first film cost $100 million
00:49to make, with director, co-writer, producer, and star Costner investing at least $38 million
00:54of his own money into the movie. Ahead of the release of Chapter 1,
00:57Costner told The Hollywood Reporter why he's so passionate about this project.
01:01I don't know why. It just speaks to me out loud, and that's been my kind of guide,
01:06my North Star of anything I've done. I thought Field of Dreams was good,
01:10you know, and I thought Tin Cup was good. I thought Bull Durham was a really nice movie,
01:14and Bodyguard was a movie that wasn't going to be made. It was written 17 years earlier.
01:21Um, No Way Out was a movie called Finish With Engines. It had been written long,
01:27no one was going to make it. So, when I feel like I like a movie, I feel like audiences
01:32will like it. And when I saw Horizon, I just felt strongly that the world, and America in particular,
01:42could go west with me and feel like they saw things in a way they'd never seen them before.
