Fans flocked to watch the much-anticipated sequel over the weekend, giving Avatar: The Way of Water a tremendous box office opening.
According to Deadline, the movie directed by James Cameron has so far earned $441.6 million globally in its first three days, wel shy of its $500 million goal. The movie has so far made $134 million in the US, falling just below of its $150–175 million budget.
However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuted this year to $442 million globally from its opening weekend, comes in slightly ahead of the Avatar sequel.
With filming currently in progress for the third instalment, The Way of Water is the second instalment in a projected five-film series. Director Cameron, has previously had success with Titanic and Terminator 2: Judgement Day
