00:17to avoid an accident? It's an emergency signal in case the rider gets hit by an accident.

00:33More than 17% of motorcycle-related road accidents occurred in Metro Manila last year
00:40compared to 2022. And from January to March this year,
00:45more than 4,000 motorcycle crashes were reported.
00:53What if there's a motorcycle programmed with road safety sensors
00:57to avoid accidents and robberies? Hmm, how?
01:01That's the answer of Avanti, who built an engine control system and rider protection sensors on the helmet.
01:09Along with the sensors programmed on the helmet is the alcohol sensor,
01:13which detects if the rider is drunk, the motorcycle engine won't start.
01:21To avoid robberies, there's also a fingerprint sensor that can detect if the owner is holding a helmet.
01:28One of the most important features is the shock sensor,
01:31which can signify if the rider was involved in an accident.
01:40In all of these accidents, the emergency contact and rider will be notified via emergency response sensor.
01:47The emergency contact will send a text message in case the rider was robbed, drunk, or in an accident.
01:54This is the brainchild of NOOI Senior High School students from Kaluokan National Science and Technology High School.
02:01There are five of us. Four of us ride motorcycles.
02:04We integrated all of those things because we thought that those are the major problems that need to be solved in the motorcycle industry.
02:12This project is a two-year process.
02:19No one can stop Avanti's spirit.
02:22Built last 2019, it won top awards at the 2020 DepEd National Science and Technology Fair.
02:29It also became the country's entry to the 2020 International Science and Engineering Fair.
02:35For now, the project is being patented.
02:37The DOSC recommended us to patent it.
02:40Our school also recommended it to secure the invention for us.
02:48This is the future of motorcycle riding here in the Philippines.
