North Korea tour operator hopeful ahead of country's reopening
A Beijing-based North Korea tour operator hails an unexpected announcement that the country will reopen to foreign tourists this winter as 'very good news.' Koryo Tours said it had received notice from isolated North Korea that tourism to the northeastern city of Samjiyon would resume in December after nearly five years of Covid-triggered closure.

01:18but i'm sure that it's just like with the russians it's just like the first step towards a
01:25broader reopening and we do hope that it's going to be that tourism will be back to the same level
01:35and same extent as it used to be before covid. So basically we are in a waiting position
01:41but we are definitely very excited because for us at the company it's not only the fact that we were
01:49not able to go to north korea it's also that we have colleagues we have been working on and we
01:55met on a monthly basis so we become like friends and since the pandemic except for the managers
02:01there is no way to contact them. So in a nutshell now we are in a waiting position waiting for
02:07confirmation from Pyongyang on the logistics the itinerary and then once we have the information
02:15we can release the tours and start planning. So it looks like that there has been a lot of
02:21changes in Pyongyang and i hope that after the initial reopening in Samjeon they're going to
02:28reopen the rest of the country and we will be able to experience like how Pyongyang changed in the world.
