00:00A beaming Michael Carrick was evidently satisfied with his side's display in the first round
00:06of the League Cup on Wednesday evening, as he met the media ahead of Borough's league
00:10fixture away at Derby County on Saturday.
00:14At Elland Road, a scintillating second-half performance saw Borough put leads to the sword,
00:21with three well-worked goals in the space of 17 minutes, but was this Borough's best
00:26outing to date under Michael Carrick?
00:56The comprehensive win against a strong lead side will have made other teams sit up and
01:05take notice in the championship, despite the tie coming in the League Cup. Carrick recognised
01:11this and was happy to embrace it.
01:13If you're going to be successful, you're out there, you've got to perform and you've got to win,
01:18so that doesn't bother me at all. In terms of a statement, it's more for ourselves really,
01:25and the boys taking the belief and the confidence and rolling with that and using the momentum.
01:31It's all about us, it's all about controlling ourselves really and taking that from game to game.
01:37But certainly if you're winning games and you're on that radar for everybody,
01:41it's the place you really want to be.
01:43The trip to Derby sees Borough come up against a newly promoted side in a game which the
01:48Teesiders would be expected to pick up a result, but Carrick was quick to outline that his side
01:53would not rest on their laurels after the Leeds win.
01:56There's no way we'd be thinking about Wednesday night, come Saturday morning,
02:00it's done and dusted. We'll take the good feelings and the positivity from it,
02:04but certainly this is a whole different ball game, a whole new game, football,
02:07different type, different style, different challenge, so
02:11we won't be taking anything for granted, that's for sure.
02:15What was encouraging for Middlesbrough was that their three goalscorers against Leeds
02:19had all been on the bench against Swansea. This highlighted the squad's depth according to Carrick,
02:24who was keen to point out that picking the team week on week going forward
02:28would not be an easy task for him and his coaching staff.
02:33Yeah, we feel that, without doubt, and I think the boys have showed that many times,
02:39and I said it before the game, when I was interviewing before the game,
02:44in terms of it's very tough to pick a strongest team, and I think it'll be like that through the
02:49season in terms of players coming in and sharing the load as the season goes,
02:55and I thought that was a real example of that.
