Did Kyle Schwarber Just Save The Phillies Season?

  • last month
Things looked bleak for the Philadelphia Phillies last night before Kyle Schwarber's grand slam erased a three-run deficit. Was that one swing enough to turn things around for the scuffling Phils?

00:00Alright, so the Philz, uh, woo, boy they had struggled since you were up at last night,
00:04no.
00:05I mean, initially, sure, but matter of fact, we can't go any further, I gotta hear it,
00:09Seltzer, over-unders today, eight.
00:13Do we play the Grand Slam more or less than eight times today?
00:16What's your prediction, James?
00:18Whatever the prediction is, it can't be enough.
00:20It can't be enough.
00:21Let's put one on the board.
00:22Swarmer ahead of the count, it's two balls and a strike, as Edward Cabrera kicks and
00:27Deals in the pit, swung on, a hit in the air, left field, going back on it, is Stowers
00:32at the wall, and it's gone, and he has turned it around with one swing of the bat, Kyle
00:39Swarmer, a Grand Slam, and the Phillies now lead it six to five.
00:47You know when you're in a slump, John, and you just know you need something, you've probably
00:53been in those kind of slumps, John.
00:54The seventh career Grand Slam, and Kyle Swarmer knows how to end an offer, my goodness.
01:05This is great.
01:06If that doesn't jump-start it, I don't know what will.
01:10Wow.
01:11Listen to the crowd, that's good stuff.
01:13That's the leader right there.
01:14My arms literally went in the air at the moment it happened, like straight in the air.
01:19Yep, that's the leader.
01:21That's a man who knows what this team needs and has the just uncanny ability to get it
01:26done.
01:27Man, just beautiful, beautiful hands in a pressure-packed situation, and that's, yeah,
01:33that's what we needed.
01:34That's the turning point, isn't it?
01:37It feels good.
01:38Well, and the guy we wanted up, like if you could have picked anyone on the roster to
01:41be up in that spot, it's Kyle Swarmer right now.
01:43Look at you, Dawg and Harper.
01:44Would you have picked Harper right now, today?
01:47It is what it is, Harper.
01:48Swarmer's been better.
01:49And it's exciting, and it's awesome.
01:51So we want to hear from you, obviously, you know, if you were at that game and playing
01:54better, too, last night, I mean, Swarmer was just incredible, no doubt about it.
02:01But hey, Brandon Marsh had a couple of hits last night, guys, JT Real Muto, we were worried
02:08about him.
02:09Yeah, Bryson Stott.
02:10Johan Rojas, some huge bats.
02:11Yes, no question.
02:13And so it does feel like the offensive approach, not just for Kyle Swarmer, but for the team,
02:22we were battling and it felt familiar, not recently familiar, but familiar back before
02:29the All-Star break when we knew that no matter how distant it got, no matter how far that
02:35thing got away, it usually didn't get away too far because our starting pitching was
02:38so good, but we knew we always had a chance.
02:41We knew we were in every game.
02:44That gaze that our players had last night while they were behind, while they were trailing,
02:49they knew they were still in it if they worked those at-bats, which is exactly the way it
02:54transpired.
02:55And notable, obviously, that it's a few hours after the Phillies held a team meeting.
02:58Now, we can't tell you a thousand percent they held a team meeting because no one's
03:01saying it on the record, but based on the tea leaves and the reporting, everyone's like,
03:06yeah, we think they had a team meeting.
03:08We think they had a team meeting.
