00:00Ian Rappaport tweeted yesterday, sources, the Patriots are trading pass rusher Matthew
00:10Judon to the Falcons, landing Atlanta a standout on defense.
00:14It's a third rounder going back.
00:16So it says, breaking news, and that was breaking news.
00:19The one thing that we do know is Matthew Judon was very upset with his contract situation
00:24in New England.
00:25But I can't fault New England for this.
00:27Sometimes you take a look at it and equate to it, let's just say CeeDee Lamb.
00:30We know how much he means to that Dallas Cowboys offense and to that football team.
00:35Led the league last year in absolute receptions, phenomenal, phenomenal talent, available for
00:40a contract, wanted to get his contract done.
00:44It's not there.
00:45But from a Cowboys perspective, they really need him.
00:47Like for them to have a winning season, CeeDee Lamb has to be there and happy.
00:52So let's go back to Matthew Judon.
00:54Great football player, four-time Pro Bowler, a solid, solid addition to your defense for
00:58anybody in the NFL.
00:59So you say to yourselves, on one of the least talented teams in the NFL with a new head
01:03coach that's a defensive-minded head coach, I really need as many good pass rushers as
01:09I can possibly get.
01:11Matthew Judon now on the move to the Atlanta Falcons, who for me, I think is the best team
01:14in the NFC South that just got better.
01:17That move for the Atlanta Falcons, that makes a lot of sense.
01:20If your goal is to win the division, forget about the Super Bowl, oh, Donnie, why would
01:24Atlanta make that move?
01:25They can't win the Super Bowl.
01:26Stop it.
01:27The goal for the team is to win the division, get a home playoff game, and see if you can
01:30do some damage in the playoffs.
01:31Matthew Judon, for a third-round pick to Atlanta at 32 years old, made absolute sense.
01:36Their window is right now with Kirk Cousins.
01:38They think they can win 10-plus games and that division and get to the playoffs, and
01:43you can't win the Super Bowl unless you get to the playoffs.
01:45But from a New England perspective, why don't we get this done a little bit earlier?
01:49Why did we do this before the draft?
01:51Why don't we trade Matthew Judon at the draft for maybe even a higher pick, a second- or
01:54a third-rounder?
01:55Now, the reason why he went with a third-rounder, Donnie, why would such a good player only
01:58go for a third-rounder?
01:59The New England Patriots know something we don't.
02:01Yes, he's 32 years old, and the team is going to stink.
02:05So obviously, you're looking to move on, because what were you going to win, four-and-a-half
02:09games with Matthew Judon?
02:10What about without him?
02:11Yeah, four-and-a-half games.
02:13It's not that big of a deal.
02:14They had to move on.
02:15They weren't going to pay that big salary.
02:16They found a team that would take him and certainly is going to be better for it, but
02:20also you get the third-round compensation pick back, maybe a tank in this year, maybe
02:25get those high draft picks, and away you move on.
02:27The Matthew Judon situation made absolute sense for the Patriots, even though it looks
02:31like they got back nothing.
02:32Whether or not they had Matthew Judon this year wasn't going to happen or wasn't going
02:36to be fruitful for them.
02:37And in two to three years, if you still signed Judon to a big contract, by the time you get
02:41good, what is he, 35 years old?
02:43Stop it here.
02:44They had to move on.
02:46They had to move on.
