Court orders psychiatric evaluation for ex-BNS director's fitness to stand trial

The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Aug 15) ordered former Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS) managing director Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli Mohammad Nor, to be referred to the psychiatry department at Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a mental health examination.

00:18Judge Susana Hussain stated on Thursday that the 80-year-old needs an assessment to determine
00:23his fitness to stand trial on three charges of criminal breach of trust involving more
00:28than R21 million related to the Littoral Combat Ship LCS project for the Royal Malaysian Navy.
00:36The court will review the psychiatrist's report on October 28.
00:40In August 2022, Ahmad Ramli was charged with three counts of CBT for fraudulently approving
00:46payments to three companies without the necessary board approval.
00:51The charges fall under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum sentence
00:56of two years and a maximum of 20 years, along with whipping and a possible fine if convicted.
01:03However, whipping cannot be imposed on female offenders and men over 50.
