War Thunder Proposed Italian Tank Tech Tree - Premium Tanks

  • last month
In this episode I continue looking at Italian tanks and ground forces for my proposed Italian tank tech tree, concentrating on the premium vehicles and those that I was unsure of how to classify or if they should be added at all.

00:00Hello everybody and welcome back to another episode of my proposed Italian Tank Tech Tree series.
00:05This is the last episode actually, because we're only dealing with the premiums.
00:09When I say we're dealing with the premiums, I've actually come across information on other tanks,
00:14and there were some I'd come across that I weren't sure on.
00:17So what I've done is done a premium slash unsure.
00:21Basically some are what I think should be premiums, such as the FT-17, R35,
00:27and there are others that I think, you know, not sure whether they should be premiums,
00:32such as the Contareo, I apologise for the mispronunciation,
00:38or some that I'm not sure if they should be in at all, but thought I'd mention just in case,
00:42such as the Semivente Dar 149-40.
00:46Should be a relatively quick video, or episode today, because there are only a few premiums.
00:51I've added some on since last time, but yeah, before I waffle on too much,
00:56let's get straight into the episode.
00:58Now the first tank we're looking at is the Renault FT-17.
01:01Won't go into massive detail about it, because obviously you'll be covering that in the French tank tech tree,
01:07but some of these were given to Italy, only a small number, I think less than 10.
01:11I don't think they were ever used in combat, but they were used by Italy to get experience with tanks.
01:18I believe the Fiat 3000 was based on it, that we covered before.
01:22Armour was 22-6mm, which was okay in World War 1, not great in World War 2, obviously.
01:30And it had a 37mm cannon.
01:33I don't know if it had a machine gun along with it, or if that was a separate variant,
01:38because there were some variants with just two machine guns.
01:42Speed was about 23.6mph, so reasonably fast, reasonably armoured.
01:50I don't know how good the gun is, it's a low-velocity one, but I think it would be a very good tier 1 premium for Italy.
01:56Now the next one I think I did mention in my last episode, the Cimavente L3-DAR-47-32.
02:03Basically it was a 47mm gun put on the L3-35.
02:08Well, it doesn't actually say it was the L3-35, it just says L3, but I did a little bit looking online,
02:14I'm pretty sure it's the L3-35 that it's been put on.
02:18So armour would be, going by that, about 6-14mm, 26mph speed.
02:25The 47mm gun would be reasonably good, I mean it's about the same as the M13-40,
02:33which is why it's not particularly higher than the M13, it could possibly be a little bit lower battle rating wise.
02:40I wasn't sure whether to include it because it was a one-off prototype,
02:43but if it is included I think it would be a reasonably cheap premium tank destroyer for the Italians to have in tier 1.
02:53Now the next tank we're looking at is the Renault R35,
02:56which I believe some were given to Italy or sold to Italy by Germany.
03:00They may have captured some of their own while attacking France just before the armistice.
03:05Armour, well there's a bit of a discrepancy.
03:08My book describes it as 40mm, but I've seen online sources saying 43mm.
03:13The gun was a 37mm gun, and it could do a top speed of about 12.4mph,
03:22so a bit slow, not the best gun in the world, but quite well armoured,
03:27which is why I've put it about mid-tier 1, maybe high-tier 1,
03:33because the gun isn't that great, but the armour is reasonably good.
03:37I think it would be best suited there.
03:40Now the next tank is the Somua S35, probably one of the best interwar tanks of the interwar era.
03:48Armour was between 20mm and 55mm, and it was cast armour and kind of sloped a little bit.
03:56It could do a top speed of about 24.85mph.
04:00The book is very specific with the speed for some reason,
04:04and it had a 47mm cannon, so this was quite a good cannon from what I understand,
04:09which is why I've put it high-tier 1.
04:11I think it would be a reasonable premium for the Italians to have and use.
04:16Now the next vehicle is an AB41 or 43 with a German 50mm gun.
04:21Now my book says it was never put into production,
04:24but it does say there was a mounting of an open hold variant with a German 50mm gun,
04:30so they must have done testing with it at least.
04:33This is probably in my unsure part of the tech tree.
04:39If Gaijin could find information on it, I think it would be a reasonable premium,
04:44but like I said, I haven't been able to find any pictures on it or much information,
04:50so I'm going to put that in the unsure pile for the moment.
04:53Now the next vehicle could easily go in the self-propelled anti-aircraft line,
04:57or the premium line, or the unsure line.
05:00I didn't actually find out about this vehicle until after I'd put out yesterday's video,
05:04which is why I didn't cover it yesterday,
05:06but this is the Semivente M15-42 Contrareo.
05:12I probably butchered that pronunciation, I do apologise.
05:15Basically it was an M15 with four 20mm cannons in it.
05:19I believe they were the Scotty 20mm cannons.
05:24I'm trying to use an Italian source and translate it.
05:28It says a rate of fire of 250 rounds per minute.
05:31I'm going to assume that talks about the individual barrel,
05:36so in fact if you come down it says a rate of fire of 600 rounds per minute.
05:40So, you know, a very good little self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
05:45If we look at the M15, which it's based on,
05:49it's got 50mm frontal armour, 42mm side armour,
05:53and can do 25mph.
05:56Now, I think this would be a very good premium or self-propelled anti-aircraft gun for the Italians.
06:01Like I say, it could go in either.
06:05I think it would be a very good addition for the Italians.
06:08I'm minded to perhaps put it in the self-propelled anti-aircraft line,
06:12because there was only one prototype and it was destroyed from what I understand.
06:17But if Gaijin can implement it,
06:21I think it would be good for the Italian tech crew,
06:24whether a premium or self-propelled anti-aircraft line vehicle.
06:29Now, the next vehicle I was extremely unsure about,
06:33the Semivente DAL 149-40.
06:36I'll read out the stats for it.
06:3921.75mph top speed, again, motley specific.
06:44And it had one 149mm gun and 14mm of armour.
06:49And again, it looks like the crew have to be exposed to fire it.
06:53The thing is, the reason I've put this in unsure,
06:56is because I think this is more of an artillery gun than a direct fire gun,
07:00or possibly not even an assault gun.
07:04The reason I've put it here is because looking online,
07:07apparently it had 259mm of penetration at 100m.
07:12So I'm wondering if this could possibly be used in a direct fire mode,
07:16or as an assault tank.
07:19I'm really not sure about this tank,
07:21which is why I've put it at tier 3,
07:25because I'm just really not sure about this.
07:29I didn't want to not mention it,
07:31because apparently it was quite a good artillery piece,
07:33or a good vehicle with a good gun.
07:36But whether it would fit in War Thunder, I don't know.
07:40If it was, it would have to be a premium, I think,
07:43because it's so different to the other tank destroyer guns.
07:47But I've put it there just so you know it exists,
07:49and you know it's there and all that.
07:52Now the next vehicle I hadn't heard of before,
07:54and it was actually a very unusual vehicle.
07:56I've only found out about it while looking for information on another vehicle.
07:59It's a complete fluke I even found it.
08:02The Breda Tipo 102.
08:05Now, sources seem to disagree on what it used.
08:09Some say 76, some say a 9mm gun,
08:12some say the 19mm used on the tank destroyer,
08:15and a few say a 102mm.
08:18They all seem to agree on the 102mm gun,
08:23although some do say that there was another variant with a 90mm gun.
08:28They both seem to have been prototypes.
08:30I'm talking about the 102mm gun for this one, really,
08:34which I'm trying to find the penetration.
08:37I believe the penetration for that was 178 at about 100 metres.
08:42I think this would be a very good vehicle to have.
08:46It's very unusual. It's wheeled.
08:48I think the sides could be brought down for extra traverse of the turret,
08:51something like up to 270 degrees.
08:54I haven't been able to find much other information on it,
08:57like speed or armour,
08:59but I think if Gaijin could find information on this,
09:02this would be a very good vehicle for the Italians to have.
09:05Put it at tier 3, because it's got that big gun,
09:08and unlike most tank destroyers, it can traverse quite a decent amount.
09:13I think this would be a very good vehicle for the Italians to have.
09:16It's very unusual.
09:18The only problem I've got, which makes me a little unsure,
09:21is finding information on it,
09:23but if Gaijin could do that,
09:25I think it would be worth looking into and adding it into the game.
09:29Well, that's the end of today's episode on the premium tanks,
09:33or slash unsure tanks, for my proposed Italian tank tech tree.
09:37Actually, this is all it for the proposed Italian tank tech tree,
09:41since we've gone through all the different classifications of vehicles.
09:46Like I've said, this is just a basic framework.
09:49This isn't intended to be the final result.
09:51Obviously, there are different variants and vehicles that could be added,
09:54but this is what I think should be added or needed
09:57just to make the tech tree work, you know, as a starting point.
10:03And as we can see, while Italy does have some not-too-good vehicles,
10:07they do have some very excellent vehicles,
10:09especially tank destroyers.
10:11They've got some good premiums, self-propelled anti-aircraft guns,
10:14some of their medium tanks are quite good,
10:16very good armoured cars, OK light tanks.
10:19I think they'd do very well in War Thunder.
10:22Unfortunately, there's a bit of a problem going above tier 3 for
10:26I believe Italy did get some American tanks,
10:29but this is really just to focus on the Italian side of the tech tree.
10:33Plus, because I couldn't find much information on what tanks they had
10:36and when they had them.
10:38You know, I'm sure Gaijin knows how to, you know,
10:40they have access to better information than I do.
10:43But, yeah, thank you for watching the series and this episode.
