00:00Is there a rift between the cast of It Ends With Us?
00:02Well, the internet seems to think so, and sources are saying there may be something
00:06to all the speculation.
00:08TikTok is flooded with rumors about a rift between star producer Blake Lively and her
00:13co-star director Justin Baldoni for the on-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover's beloved novel.
00:19The chatter stemmed from Baldoni's notable absence from joint press events that was largely
00:23led by Lively, along with the other cast members.
00:26Fans also noticed a lack of photos of Lively and Baldoni together during the film's premiere
00:31or anywhere during the press run.
00:33In addition, neither Lively, Hoover, nor the rest of the cast follow Baldoni on Instagram,
00:38though they all follow each other and have been posting-slash-praising each other leading
00:41up to the film's release.
00:43This raised eyebrows, seeing as Baldoni helmed the project, and Hoover and Baldoni appeared
00:48together on each other's Instagrams multiple times previously.
00:51Social media users also speculated that Lively brought in husband Ryan Reynolds to take over
00:56creative control of the film after he was seen involved in some of the film's promo.
01:00"...blink once for I'd love to be your new dad.
01:04He blinked.
01:05He blinked."
01:07And Lively revealed on the premiere's red carpet that Reynolds wrote a key scene at
01:11the top of the movie, the iconic rooftop scene my husband actually wrote it.
01:15Nobody knows that but you now.
01:17However, the film's screenwriter Christy Hall spoke to The Hollywood Reporter that she indeed
01:22wrote the scene in question.
01:23Probably the most difficult scene for me to crack was the rooftop scene.
01:27Because I have to say Colleen wrote it perfectly.
01:31And I wish I could have just lifted it from the pages and just put it in the film.
01:35But it's a little too long for film language.
01:38And so my first crack at it, it was like a 10-page scene, which is a little impossible.
01:44So the question became, what do we keep?
01:47What do we shave off?
01:48So on the page, it took a long time to get right.
01:51And then I have to say, Justin and Blake just killed it.
01:54Now sources are telling The Hollywood Reporter that there was indeed a fracture among the
01:58filmmakers in the post-production process, noting that two different cuts of the movie
02:03emerged.
02:04According to multiple sources, Lively, as a producer, commissioned a cut of the movie
02:08from editor Shane Reed, who is an editor on Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as the Lively-directed
02:13music video for Taylor Swift's I Bet You Think About Me.
02:17It's unclear if any of this cut was ultimately used in the final project, which was credited
02:21to editors Una Flaherty and Rob Sullivan.
02:25As for plans for the sequel, Hoover's 2022 novel It Starts With Us, Baldoni has expressed
02:29being noncommittal about whether he would direct another film in the franchise, noting
02:33at the premiere to Entertainment Tonight,
02:35I think Blake Lively's ready to direct.
02:37That's what I think.
02:39In the end, the chatter around It Ends With Us could potentially go away with the film
02:42now open.
02:43The Sony film earned a huge $7 million in Thursday previews as it competes with Deadpool
02:48and Wolverine at the box office.
02:50Exhibitors suggest the film could open to $40 million or more, with some predicting
02:54it could climb as high as $55 million.
