UN concerned by 'climate of fear' in Venezuela

The United Nations voices deep concern over what it says is a climate of fear in Venezuela following the country's disputed presidential election results. A UN human rights spokesperson says they are troubled by the high number of arbitrary detentions and the disproportionate use of force.

00:12in the aftermath of the presidential elections in Venezuela, and the resulting climate of
00:17fear.
00:19It is especially troubling that so many people are being detained, accused or charged, either
00:23with incitement to hatred or under counter-terrorism legislation.
00:28Federal law must never be used to limit unduly the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful
00:33assembly and association.
00:36According to official statements, over 2,400 people have been arrested since the 29th of
00:41July.
