00:00Far-right opposition in Venezuela is increasingly using hate speech during
00:04the country's current presidential campaign. However, this narrative is
00:08pushing a growing number of opposition leaders to support President Nicolás
00:12Maduro candidacy. Our special envoy in Venezuela, Brian Meyer, with the details.
00:17Taking a cue from its international allies like Donald Trump and Javier
00:22Mele, the far-right Venezuelan opposition is increasingly using hate
00:26speech to divide the population and build the old fascist narrative of an
00:30internal enemy. This trend reached a new low this week when a white opposition
00:36journalist referred to Nicolás Maduro's female supporters as monkeys. But it's
00:40beginning to alienate many of its traditional center-right allies.
00:48Some of these people have started using hate speech to sow divisions and above
00:53all, whenever someone speaks independently, they try to defame them
00:57through divisive language and lies that are totally divorced from the reality of
01:01Venezuela. Starting on Saturday, when former Juan Guaidó allied congressman
01:11Carlos Prosperi announced that fed up with the polarizing rhetoric, he is now
01:16going to support Nicolás Maduro, more and more independent opposition
01:20politicians have pledged their support, including eight leaders who met with the
01:24Venezuelan president on Tuesday to hash out their differences and plan how they
01:28can work together to fight social problems.
01:34The same one who asked for sanctions. The same one who is planning acts of violence
01:40on election day to claim fraud. Do you want the Guarimbas to come back to Ciudad
01:46Bolívar? Do you want hatred, intolerance and division? Or do you want love,
01:52tolerance and peace to prevailed? Venezuela's presidential elections are
01:59marked for July 28th. Brian Muir, Telesur, Caracas.
