00:00Elle King is getting candid about her strained and quote toxic relationship with father Rob
00:05Schneider.
00:07The artist stopped by Bunny XO's podcast Dumb Blonde ahead of the start of her tour
00:11in September and during the conversation opened up about having Schneider as a father.
00:15I disagree with a lot of the things that he says and he is just, I don't know, you want
00:19someone to change so much and ultimately you can't control anyone else's actions.
00:24You can't control people's feelings.
00:26All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings.
00:29She explained that her father wasn't really involved in her life growing up and they didn't
00:33connect until she was much older.
00:35Even now, King shared that her relationship with him is very ebb and flow.
00:39Right now, we're not flowing.
00:40The Baby Daddy's Weekend singer shared that he used to give her grief for her weight,
00:45so much so that he sent her to quote fat camp the summer she was 11 and 12.
00:49At the camp, she said they would give the kids a slice of turkey and steamed vegetables
00:53for every meal and make them work out all day.
00:56So it's like very toxic and very silly.
00:58She explained that when she first got signed to a record label and released an album, the
01:02actor did not appreciate when people began asking her about him.
01:06My dad called me and he was like, don't talk about me in the press.
01:09Like all right.
01:10Okay, great.
01:11But also it's like, I don't care.
01:14Like hey, listen, people have asked me about your for years and I'm like, you're talking
01:18out of your ass and you're talking about drag and anti-gay rights.
01:22And it's like, she made it clear she does not agree with his thoughts on the LGBTQ community
01:27and rather believes in all forms of love.
01:29I just believe in anyone finding their happiness and their joy in whatever way, whatever capacity
01:34that is.
