00:00PDRM has expressed its gratitude and appreciation for hosting the MOU on the awareness of the
00:17Fossil Scam between PostMalaysia and Huzqqal.
00:20I think this is a collaboration or synergy that has been held many times, which means
00:27that we handle cases related to Fossil Scams.
00:32Most of the people, many of the scams that we receive from the JSJK, especially those
00:37involving Fossil-Fossil, so to speak, which are received and require certain verification.
00:44So those who are naive, who do not know that they have been deceived, follow all the instructions
00:51that are given by the scammers, which ultimately causes them to transfer a large amount of
00:57money to the shops' accounts.
01:00So this matter needs to be made known to the public to stop, especially in recent times,
01:08there are many goldsmiths or elderly people who have become victims, and this is very
01:18disappointing, because in our efforts to spread awareness, it is still happening.
01:26And interventions or preventive measures through techniques or technology, such as those introduced
01:35by Huzqqal, and also today's collaboration with PostMalaysia, it is hoped that it can
01:42give awareness and continue to prevent the perpetration of fraud through these Fossil Scams.
01:51For context, for the past three years involving PostLaju, in 2020-2021, we did not have a case
02:00or perhaps it was not reported at that time, but in 2020-2022, there were 107 cases involving
02:09a loss of RM13,571,205.60.
02:16Then it increased by almost more than 100% in 2020-2023, with 341 cases reported.
02:27This is only involving PostLaju, and involving a loss of RM13,615,568.22.
02:38From 2020-2024, which is now until July, we have 87 cases with a loss of RM2,999,714.42.
02:56So that is the situation or magnitude or effect of the crime involving this Fossil Scam.
03:03So we are actually encouraging such MOUs to be held, perhaps with other courier services
03:10that we can eventually reduce.
03:14And I also ask many people to be aware that courier services and the like do not make
03:22such calls that can cause them to transfer money and so on.
03:27And even if there are such things, courier services are the ones who are obliged to make
03:36a report in the first place.
03:38It is not that they call to give a warning to the person.
03:42Then there is also the term Police In Between, Inspector So-and-so, who then advises
03:49so that there is an account transfer to save the person.
03:52It is not like that, it is not as easy as that.
03:55It means that all of that is in the SOP.
03:58Not by calling.
03:59The suspect is the one.
04:01If we bring illegal goods, whether it is drugs or fake documents, of course we will become
04:08a suspect.
04:09And the suspect will not be informed.
04:11That is the only way.
04:13Let us not be easily empowered or easily panicked until we make a decision that follows
04:22the desire of the scammer.
04:24Data is the new oil, some people say.
04:44This problem is not only in our country, it is everywhere.
04:47And some people ask me how it is easy to get data.
04:52You go to fast food outlets, especially in the context of MCO and so on.
04:57Of course, people ordering food from home and so on.
05:00Of course, you have to give your data.
05:02So, the data can be obtained from anywhere easily.
05:06But of course, it is a mistake to use it without proper use.
05:13So, everyone who uses it is subject to identity theft.
05:18So, if you want to ask me how this data can be obtained, we have laws.
05:23Like the Personal Data Protection Act, presumably.
05:26But it does not prohibit people from committing the crime of using the data.
05:32So, it means that in certain areas, that is why sometimes we know there is a certain target
05:37to pensioners.
05:38About our IC numbers, we have different dates and so on.
05:43You can know if someone is in the government sector or the public sector.
05:50I think a lot has been done to protect our data from being misused.
05:59And we hope it will get better from time to time.
