Tens of thousands run Sydney’s City 2 Surf to raise money for charity

This year's City 2 Surf race saw close to 80 thousand people complete Sydney's biggest running event. Participants from 120 countries ran, walked and even limped across the finish line to raise money for charity.

00:27To real life heroes, like these 21 firefighters, each running in full gear, weighing 20 kilos.
00:34To raise money for the Burns Unit at the Children's Hospital at Westmate.
00:38Starting in Hyde Park and heading east, the 14 kilometer course went through the Kings
00:43Cross Tunnel, over the infamous Heartbreak Hill.
00:46My knees clapped out about at 7Ks, so it's been a struggle, so anyway, I'll get there.
00:53So of all clues, and finally down to the finish line at Bondi Beach.
00:57Amazing.
00:58It was so fun, best day.
01:02With 40 minutes and 49 seconds on the clock, Isaac Hain was the first to cross the line,
01:07followed minutes later by the first woman, Leanne Pompiani, with a time of 45 minutes
01:12and 37 seconds.
01:15This year, runners have raised more than $3.5 million for hundreds of charities, coming
01:20from tens of thousands of donations, making this one of the most successful City to Surf
01:25runs to date.
01:27The Norman family had a personal reason for competing dressed as cows.
01:32We're raising funds in memory of our daughter, Sophie, who passed away from leukemia when
01:36she was three.
01:37Her favorite animal was a cow, so we all do it for her.
01:42And all together now, we've raised over $100,000 for the City Children's Hospital Foundation,
01:46in her memory.
01:48Sophie's siblings, Zoe and Leo, ran in her name too.
01:52I hope we raise lots of money, and I hope the children's feel better.
