Oxenhope Charity Straw Race sees competitors run 2.5 miles while stopping at five pubs along the way to have a pint at each, all while in fancy dress. The event takes place every summer and always on the first Sunday in July starting from village of Oxenhope, near Keighley. The race is thought to have first started back in the mid 1970’s by two local farmers who made a bet about racing between pubs having a pint at each. As the night continued the bet grew, now they would also be carrying a bale of straw (15-20 kgs) between the pubs.
