00:33Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, 2023 It's the lowest rated Call of Duty ever released
00:45by a significant margin.
00:46This is because it's fundamentally a game that really doesn't need to exist, adding
00:50nothing new over its direct predecessor, which, remember, only came out the previous year.
00:56This is because it was merely meant to be a sledgehammer-led expansion, but Activision
01:00bumped it out to a full release, apparently because it was unthinkable that 2023 could
01:05come and go without a new Call of Duty to play.
01:07Even the most die-hard fans could see that Activision was trying to rip them off, though
01:11and the game launched with zero new multiplayer maps.
01:14Its campaign was also one of the worst in the franchise's history.

01:22Call of Duty Vanguard, 2021 Sledgehammer's previous caught outing was
01:322021's Vanguard, which was also poorly received, but at least it was a game, just about, instead
01:38of a way to recycle Modern Warfare 2 maps.
01:40But it was an overall bizarre game, full of tokenistic representation of marginalized
01:45groups.
01:46Some speculated that this attempt at progressive politics was all to distract gamers from the
01:51monumental scandal raging at Activision at the time, as it was in the midst of being
01:55sued for labor law violations in the state of California.
01:59Whatever the reason may be, it proved an unpopular choice with players across the political spectrum,
02:04though many still touted the campaign and multiplayer as pretty fun.

02:12Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, 2021 The first title developed entirely by Sledgehammer,
02:22Advanced Warfare was one of the most ambitious since the original Modern Warfare.
02:25It had every reason to succeed, a fresh studio given plenty of freedom, lots of new gameplay
02:30mechanics that made the multiplayer faster than ever before, and big name stars as its
02:35hero and villain.
02:37But it's impossible to deny that Advanced Warfare has proven to be incredibly forgettable
02:41despite everything it did well.
02:43Almost nothing about it has stuck with fans of the series, in fact the only thing memorable
02:47was the infamous meme, press F to pay respects to the fact nobody cares about Advanced Warfare
02:53anymore.

02:55Call of Duty Black Ops 4, COD campaigns are typically short and sweet, solid stories with
03:06great actors that last for a good few hours until throwing you right into the multiplayer.
03:11But Treyarch decided to forgo standard single player campaign in favor of focusing even
03:16more on multiplayer.
03:17And, to the game's credit, the blackout mode is a lot of fun for Battle Royale fans,
03:21which is basically everybody at this point.
03:23However, one big issue plagued Black Ops 4 that has been one of modern gaming's most
03:28controversial features, yep, you guessed it, microtransactions.
03:31It had some of the absolute worst microtransaction markets this franchise has ever seen, and
03:36it's never a good way to win over fans.

03:47Call of Duty Infinite Warfare It's always great when COD does something
03:59innovative, but Infinite Warfare was just too different from its predecessors to become
04:03a fan favorite.
04:05Even before its release, it was clear this was going to be a divisive game.
04:08Heck, its trailer remains one of the most disliked videos in YouTube's history.
04:14When it launched, players were given an interesting sci-fi campaign with another winning cast,
04:18but the multiplayer left much to be desired.
04:21Despite promising something different, the actual gameplay was more of the same with
04:24an outer space coat of paint.
04:26But one part of Infinite Warfare definitely stood out.
04:29It had an awesome zombies offering.

04:37Call of Duty Ghosts The Modern Warfare trilogy was one of the
04:46franchise's highest points, and unfortunately, Infinity Ward wasn't able to properly follow
04:51it up when Ghosts came around.
04:53But a game isn't bad just because it's not as good as some of the best titles of
04:56all time.
04:57It's got a longer, more challenging story than other entries, with highly varied missions,
05:02including one where you actually scuba dive and fight sharks.
05:06But the multiplayer took Black Op 2's pick-10 system and made it unnecessarily convoluted.
05:12You could spend hours trying to just build elaborate, confusing loadouts before finding
05:15one that actually worked for you.

05:21Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 2022 It didn't quite reach the lofty heights
05:33of 2019's reboot of the Modern Warfare series, but it did outsell it and proved a hit with
05:38longtime fans.
05:39When done right, Modern Warfare games become instant classics.
05:43But that's a reason why this installment, popular as it is, ranks a little lower on
05:47our list.
05:48Ultimately, it was just a rehash of the older games, just without all the broken, hacked
05:52lobbies you're forced to contend with if you try to play those games now.
05:56Still, if you love Modern Warfare, you probably had more than enough fun with the sequel,
06:00with its action sequences spectacular enough to distract from the middling plot of the
06:05campaign.

06:13Call of Duty 3 The third game in the franchise had an amazing
06:23single-player offering, with numerous campaigns following Allied forces across Europe as they
06:28fought to liberate France.
06:29Treyarch's first game proved their knack for creating awesome stories full of great
06:33moments.
06:34As the four campaigns intersected with one another, you really just felt as though you
06:37were working towards a common goal with whole armies behind you.
06:41The multiplayer was solid as well, though it might not hold up today thanks to years
06:44of tech developments.
06:46For a game that came out back in 2006, it's still a lot of fun, even if you're just
06:50jumping into it now.

06:57Call of Duty World War II After years of exploring the future of warfare,
07:08Sledgehammer took Call of Duty back to its roots.
07:11The Second World War made a grand return and shed lots of the modern gimmicks.
07:15Gone were the exosuits and drone strikes.
07:17For much of the game, it was just you, your gun, and your grenades.
07:20This back-to-basics approach won a lot of people over, but World War II certainly wasn't
07:25perfect.
07:26It was also jam-packed with microtransactions, including loot boxes and plenty of cosmetics.
07:31And this only really got worse the longer the game was out, adding more and more systems
07:35on top of each other, even as they fixed the horrendous technical issues at launch.

07:50Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Two years on from the disastrous Black Ops
08:024 and its lack of story, Black Ops returned with this 1980s edition of Call of Duty, bringing
08:07back some serious favorites and throwing you into the last few years of the Cold War.
08:12It had a phenomenal campaign, sending you to unravel the mystery of Perseus, the Soviet
08:16Union's top spy, and taking you through Vietnam, Berlin, and the Middle East to do
08:20it.
08:21The multiplayer was great, too, with a lot of new maps and returning maps from the franchise.
08:25It did suffer from one big problem, though.
08:27The user interface for online play was just as complicated as other recent COD games,
08:33even if it did offer a glut of customization options.

08:42Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Treyarch decided to make everything a little
08:53Deus Ex in 2015 by giving players a wealth of cybernetic abilities to utilize.
08:57In a more robust campaign than most, you could upgrade these many augmentations and play
09:02co-op with three of your friends.
09:04The multiplayer put an even heavier emphasis on learning how to move properly, letting
09:08you boost and wall run once more.
09:10This made the already fast-paced and constantly exciting gameplay even more so than before,
09:15and the 1940s noir-themed zombie mode made Black Ops 3 a must-play for any zombie fan.

09:28Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 In 2019, it was Infinity Ward's turn to take
09:39the series back to its roots with a bombastic reboot of the Modern Warfare series.
09:44The dark and intense single-player campaign has a stellar voice cast for its developed
09:49and interesting characters, as well as some truly unique story moments.
09:52Meanwhile, the multiplayer boasts some of the best and most detailed sound design in
09:56any modern game, sure to keep you on your toes.
09:59Its beautiful graphics and frenetic action are more than enough to make up for that infamously
10:03huge file size.
10:06And of course, Activision released Warzone for free, meaning the series' great gameplay
10:09was more accessible than ever.

10:17Call of Duty 2 Back in World War II, once more, Infinity
10:23Ward was still on top form for their second outing in what would become a legendary series.
10:28This time, there were three distinct campaigns.
10:30While there were plenty of missions that took place in occupied France, as you'd expect,
10:34it also featured more interesting settings including the British campaign across North
10:38Africa and a Soviet campaign in Moscow.
10:41As for the multiplayer, it had all the modes you'd expect from Call of Duty and all the
10:45style as well, with incredible visuals for the time.
10:48The franchise certainly didn't suffer from the sophomore slump and only got stronger
10:52from that point on.

10:59Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 2011 In 2011, we rejoined series favorites Soap
11:09McTavish and Captain Price to wrap up the story begun in Modern Warfare.
11:13And the narrative was definitely a fitting conclusion.
11:16Now playing as Yuri, it was down to the player to help Price finally kill Makarov.
11:21But for any fans expecting innovation, it wasn't to be.
11:25Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer was practically identical to Modern Warfare 2, though it does
11:29get points for adding the Kill Confirm mode that remains popular today.
11:33Being so similar to Modern Warfare 2 isn't a bad thing at all, but it does mean 3 was
11:37disappointing.
11:38Who wants to buy the exact same game twice?

11:46Call of Duty World at War Where lots of World War II games focus on
11:54the war in France, and the Call of Duty franchise is certainly no exception here, World at War
11:59went in the other direction and saw you fighting Imperial Japan in the Pacific and helping
12:03the Soviets to victory in Eastern Europe.
12:06But while the story and multiplayer were both pretty great here, World at War shone for
12:10another reason.
12:11Yep, introducing zombies.
12:13It's difficult now to imagine COD without the undead hordes, but once, Treyarch were
12:17visionaries for imagining the series with them.
12:20With a dark story and violent animations, Virtual Warfare never felt so brutal.

12:29Call of Duty Yep, the one that started it all.
12:38Though far more limited in both scope and vision, you have to give the original Call
12:41of Duty credit for beginning one of the most popular and profitable video game franchises
12:46of all time.
12:47Developed by Infinity Ward, the game managed to stand out from the crowd in a time where
12:51Second World War shooters were absolutely everywhere.
12:54The story treads familiar ground, Operation Overlord, the Battle of the Bulge, and the
12:58Battle of Stalingrad, but with that trademark Call of Duty flair, giant set pieces, lots
13:03of explosions, and some of the best gunplay in the business, it's a genre-defining title
13:07for a reason, after all.

13:14Call of Duty Black Ops 2 This was the very first time the series went
13:25to the future, heading to 2025 after the instigation of a new Cold War.
13:30Two stories run side-by-side, as returning protagonist Alex Mason is joined in the future
13:35by his son while they try to take down Raul Menendez.
13:37It even included multiple choices and branching narratives.
13:41On the multiplayer side of things, Treyarch fully leaned into Call of Duty's esports
13:44potential by adding League Mode, cementing the shooter as an annual, highly competitive
13:49title.
13:50Zombie Mode was also met with the most robust one yet, with customizable challenges and
13:54lots of large, dynamic maps.

14:01Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2007 Infinity Ward made numerous acclaimed games
14:14in wartime France, but the original Modern Warfare remains the biggest innovation the
14:18franchise has ever seen.
14:19Now players had access to a modern array of weapons and perks, and interesting urban settings
14:24as you fought in Russia and the Middle East.
14:26It also revolutionized the online component by adding killstreak rewards, something it's
14:32now impossible to imagine the series without.
14:33UAVs and choppers are invaluable tools you just don't get in World War II.
14:38The bold approach and change of gears this time took definitely paid off for the franchise
14:42big time.

14:49Call of Duty Black Ops In 2010, it was Treyarch's turn to ditch World
14:58War II in search of something new, and they settled on the Cold War.
15:02You're thrown into the 1960s, working for the CIA and dropping into conflicts like the
15:07Vietnam War and the Cuban Revolution, and the constant flashes to Mason's Interrogation
15:12keep the plot intrigue really high.
15:14But the multiplayer added many franchise staples, like the RC-XD you can use to covertly blow
15:19up the enemy team, not to mention one of the most iconic maps in the series, you probably
15:24guessed it, it's Nuketown.
15:25And when the zany zombie mode returned, you could even play as Kennedy, Castro, and Nixon
15:30themselves.

15:38Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, 2009
15:48Modern Warfare was awesome, but the direct sequel honed that formula to gaming perfection.
15:53The campaign may have been on the shorter side even for Call of Duty, but it didn't
15:57have a single dull moment, not to mention that iconic plot twist.
16:01It's no surprise the campaign was remastered as a standalone with a story that stood.
16:05The online play was outstanding too, introducing a host of iconic maps like Rust and Terminal
16:10that continue to be some of the most beloved in the series.
16:13It's more fun and addictive than every game that came before it, or after it, and continues
16:18to be the gold standard for first-person shooters.
