00:00Jessica is suffering from leptospirosis and her 17-year-old son is suffering from it.
00:09She went to see a doctor in August and found out that she hasn't been able to urinate for three days.
00:16She told me that she's just feeling dizzy because she doesn't want to go to the doctor.
00:30He said he doesn't want to have problems.
00:32Because of leptospirosis, Victor Camarines, a volunteer rescuer, is confined and undergoing dialysis.
00:39He helped to clean up the trash in their area.
00:42But after two days, he got a fever and passed out for a few days.
00:46Then he was rushed to the hospital.
00:48According to his brother, after the flood in their area,
00:51he gave Victor doxycycline but he wasn't able to drink it.
00:56He's suffering from leptospirosis.
00:58It's hard for him to walk and move.
01:00He can't eat.
01:01We thought it was just a flu.
01:06But it turned out to be leptospirosis.
01:09At the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, or NKTI, 12 new patients were admitted.
01:1510 of them are severe cases.
01:17Three patients were admitted last week.
01:19Of the 77 admitted leptospirosis patients,
01:2367 are undergoing dialysis.
01:26Surge capacity plan of the DOH is a big help in getting beds and medicines.
01:31Because they were added by nurses from other hospitals.
01:34In San Lazaro Hospital, 13 cases were added.
01:38And the number of people admitted increased to 90 because of leptospirosis.
01:43The Hospital of Manila has 37 leptospirosis patients.
01:47They were admitted from Manalas to Baguio, Carina.
01:50They are preparing for the expected increase of leptospirosis patients this rainy season.
01:55According to the DOH Patient Navigation and Referral to Healthcare Provider Network,
02:00this is what they are doing now for leptospirosis cases.
02:03So they are reminding those who are planning to go to the hospital,
02:06to call the Leptospirosis Hotlines first
02:09to know which hospital in Metro Manila has a vacancy.
02:13But if necessary, remember during COVID,
02:16we have one hospital command, National Patient Navigation.
02:19That is what we are doing now.
02:21Aside from leptospirosis, dengue cases are also being closely monitored.
02:26According to the DOH, from January 1 to July 27,
02:29128,834 dengue cases were reported in the country.
02:34This is 33 percent higher than the number of cases at the same time in 2023.
