Kamala Harris Won't Be Torpedoed By Biden Problems, Colorado Governor Says

  • last month
Kamala Harris is charging full steam ahead with her 2024 Democratic Presidential bid ... but the looming question -- Will Joe Biden’s unpopularity on several key issues tank her race for the White House?

Colorado Governor Jared Polis breaks it down on "TMZ Live" Friday ... we asked if Harris could face the same fate as VP Hubert Humphrey in 1968 ... when Lyndon Johnson withdrew from the race because of our involvement in the Vietnam War. Humphrey snagged the Democratic nomination, but he couldn't separate himself from the Administration's Vietnam policy and lost the election to Richard Nixon.

00:00In 1968, when Lyndon Johnson withdrew, I remember the date, March 31st, 1968, and Hubert Humphrey,
00:11his vice president, became the Democratic nominee, and Humphrey lost the election because
00:18of Lyndon Johnson's policy on the Vietnam War.
00:22So fast forward to now, how does Kamala Harris avert the Hubert Humphrey problem that he
00:30had way back in the day?
00:32This is a very different scenario.
00:34The critique on Biden, and I think there's great affection and love for Joe Biden, and
00:39you saw it now, by the way, the minute he announced he wasn't running again, his popularity
00:42numbers jumped up.
00:43It wasn't so much he made an error, like the Vietnam War was an error that was hung around
00:49Humphrey's neck.
00:50It was much more as we like the guy, he's a wonderful person, but is it time to pass
00:54the torch?
00:55Is he really the right person with the vision and the energy to lead for the next four years?
01:00Even if people felt that way about Joe Biden, there are people who have serious concerns
01:04about those issues that Harvey mentioned, and at some point, you know that the Republicans
01:10are going to lay, and they already have been, laying those concerns about those particular
01:15issues on Kamala Harris.
01:17So how does she respond to that?
01:21I mean, on inflation, and by the way, inflation is now down, of course, and there was an inflationary
01:26period post-pandemic, mortgage rates are starting to move down.
01:30But Donald Trump's policies are more inflationary than anything that Kamala Harris is talking
01:37about.
01:38On immigration, right?
01:39Another complicated issue.
01:40We could talk about immigration for hours, but obviously border security, President Biden
01:44has taken steps.
01:45Frankly, as you know, President Biden, and there's a bipartisan group in the Senate that
01:49had a real border security bill that would have locked down the border, probably would
01:53have passed if Donald Trump hadn't come out against it.
01:55So I think the buzz out there is, hey, does Donald Trump want there to be chaos on the
01:59border?
02:00Because he thinks he can ride that to the White House.
02:02One last question before we go.
02:03Not about politics, but something very important, especially to people in your state, just curious.
02:08Favorite ski resort?
02:10Oh, you know, I get in a lot of trouble if I were to get a ski resort in my state.
02:14But I'll say that I personally ski Vail more often, and our kids love skiing, and we're
02:19up there, I don't know, it's not a lot, but probably five, six days last year.
02:23So hope to top that this year.
