00:00I relocated from Australia to Scotland four years ago and often get asked why I leave
00:03beautiful sunny Australia for miserable old depressing rainy Scotland. We start by just saying
00:11we get sunshine. The second thing I want to say is that this is all my personal experience and
00:16you may not resonate with this, people living in Scotland may not resonate with this and that's
00:19totally fine, this is just my personal experience. So one of the first reasons I moved to Scotland
00:23is because I actually really prefer a cold rainy climate and that is something that you do
00:27experience very often here in Scotland but what I like the most about it is that you actually see
00:31all four seasons whereas in Australia you kind of get the same season all year round, same level of
00:36light all year round and I just really feel like the seasons here give you permission to live in
00:40each of them. That being said the not so great side of that is during winter when you have like
00:44six hours of daylight it is pretty hard to get used to and you do get a sad seasonal affective
00:49disorder, excuse the noise, but honestly you do get used to it and we just adjust and I just
00:54rest during that time rather than push so hard. Downside to Scotland, hills everywhere. One last
00:59thing I'll share is that I do live in Edinburgh, I chose to live in Edinburgh. What I love about
01:02it so much is it's like a big village, it's not a city like London or Sydney or New York,
01:07it is like a big village. I just think that having the proximity to a city but it not feel like as
01:12intense as a normal city would feel is a huge win for me, I've never had that in my life ever
01:16so I really really enjoy living in Edinburgh and you get to walk everywhere and die because I'm so
01:21unfit at the moment but you can walk almost everywhere in Edinburgh. In Australia you really
01:24need a car to be honestly to go anywhere.
