00:00Vietnam and the Philippines are both claimant countries to certain parts of the South China or West Philippine Sea.
00:06But both countries and ASEAN brothers are open to settling their disputes amicably and based on a rules-based international order.
00:13So much so, they agreed to put on a bilateral military exercise on the high seas
00:18to not only show how territorial contentions are solved the right way, but to engage in deeper and more humanitarian causes.
00:26This bilateral activity today kicked off with a firefighting and then rescue exercise that was well planned and executed,
00:32participated in by 80 Vietnamese Coast Guard personnel and over a hundred from the PCG.
00:38The joint maritime drills will only improve the interoperability and operational readiness of both countries as members of the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum.
00:56This is a great opportunity for our government, particularly the Philippine Coast Guard, in collaboration and exercise with the Vietnam Coast Guard.
01:05This is great because at least we will have regional cooperation between ASEAN nations.
01:14For us in the Philippine Coast Guard, we learned a lot today and there is so much room for improvement.
01:25At least we will have good collaboration and cooperation with the claimants of the West Philippine Sea.
01:37And being an ASEAN nation also, it is good to have at least one direction, which is a rules-based approach of the Philippines.
01:49And we hope also that the Vietnam Coast Guard, particularly the Vietnam government, will also do away or follow with the Philippine government
