00:00It is this intellectless, thoughtless, mindless religiosity that has brought us down to our sorry state.
00:07It is not without reason that India suffered so badly for so many centuries.
00:11To me, the primary reason was misinterpretation and exploitation of religion.
00:16And that is still continuing.
00:17Also, in the last 10-20 years, that exploitation has somehow worsened.
00:22We thought that with the arrival of science and education and values of freedom and inquiry,
00:28superstition would reduce.
00:30But very strangely, that has not come to pass.
00:33What we are seeing is a phenomena in the opposite direction.
00:36More and more blind kinds of cults are rising.
00:40People are not reading.
00:41People are becoming more and more ignorant of their own central scriptures.
00:46In some cults, I have heard, reading is prohibited.
00:49They say, no, you don't read anything.
00:50Especially, don't read anything related to science.
00:52You just read these 3-4 books that our cult prescribes and become totally brainwashed.
